How come no one makes any Karl Malone comparisons?
They are a little different physically but both are undersized/un-athletic PFs.
Not saying he will be as good as one of the greatest ever, but I'm trying to be optimistic.
I made the Malone comparison in a different thread!
He was very close to a 50/40/80 guy. Over 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and shot like 76% FTs... He can shoot and is very polished. I wonder if he can't be a bit of a Karl Malone type as well... Karl couldn't jump at all and don't think Sullinger will ever be that strong, but can see him being very tough to handle catching the ball at about 15-18ft and either hitting the jumper or getting a step on his guy and getting to the line. Believe he was the #1 guy in the draft at getting to the line and is a documented very good shooter. Not explosive first step, but knows how to use his body and create space or get contact. Think he will have that in his game. Big Baby had that to some degree as well, but Sullinger is far more polished offensively and longer and better explosion, though that's not saying much.
Neither are leapers, but both big strong guys with the face up game and ability to get a step on a guy, just enough to make them pay with a hoop or going to the line.
I've compared him to BBD there as well and think the comparisons are totally legit. Only that Sullinger is a MUCH better version - longer, more athletic, better shooter, more polished post game... And BBD is not a bad player! Its all between his ears. The great thing is - I LOVE what's between Sullinger's ears!! As long as he's healthy, he will contribute.
Before people go nuts, not saying that Sully will be anywhere near Malone. Just that his offensive game can look a bit like that. Catch in the high post and either make shots or go to the FT line by using one good move, then girth and guile. He's got a bunch of girth and guile.
