My hope for Sullinger is to turn into another Carlos Boozer.  He's got the post moves to do it; now, he needs to add strength and nastiness.

And the ability to guard enters effectively.  ;D

How come no one makes any Karl Malone comparisons?

They are a little different physically but both are undersized/un-athletic PFs.

Not saying he will be as good as one of the greatest ever, but I'm trying to be optimistic.

I made the Malone comparison in a different thread!

He was very close to a 50/40/80 guy. Over 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and shot like 76% FTs... He can shoot and is very polished. I wonder if he can't be a bit of a Karl Malone type as well... Karl couldn't jump at all and don't think Sullinger will ever be that strong, but can see him being very tough to handle catching the ball at about  15-18ft and either hitting the jumper or getting a step on his guy and getting to the line. Believe he was the #1 guy in the draft at getting to the line and is a documented very good shooter. Not explosive first step, but knows how to use his body and create space or get contact. Think he will have that in his game. Big Baby had that to some degree as well, but Sullinger is far more polished offensively and longer and better explosion, though that's not saying much.

Neither are leapers, but both big strong guys with the face up game and ability to get a step on a guy, just enough to make them pay with a hoop or going to the line.

I've compared him to BBD there as well and think the comparisons are totally legit. Only that Sullinger is a MUCH better version - longer, more athletic, better shooter, more polished post game... And BBD is not a bad player! Its all between his ears. The great thing is - I LOVE what's  between Sullinger's ears!! As long as he's healthy, he will contribute.

Before people go nuts, not saying that Sully will be anywhere near Malone. Just that his offensive game can look a bit like that. Catch in the high post and either make shots or go to the FT line by using one good move, then girth and guile. He's got a bunch of girth and guile.

I think he is the second coming of Paul Millsap.

Roy, I'm absolutely pumped for this pick...I love it the guy is nasty down low...we haven't had a guy like that since Leon (his upside is much higher than Leon's though)

This kid is a perfect choice for the Kevin Garnett Mentor program.

I really believe the Celtics could of come out with one of the best choices in the draft, especially if KG takes him under his wing and shows him how to be a professional.

Right player, right draft, right team.

I'm not talking about everybody/or anybody else, "you" put those words out there, NOT ME .. or the NFL , what does that have to do with the price of tea in china? ???    BABY doesn't play in the NFL.. although the WWF might not be a bad idea...I 'm talking about that hippo that use to play for the Celtics ,  with goo of flab hanging from his arms like an old lady ... DA BIG CORNDOG BABY DAVIS.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I think the Big Baby comparisons are fair to an extent. Baby was a beast in his best years for us, and we love to put him down, but he has some very nice moves around the rim.
Sully is like baby in that he uses he weight and base to create space under the basket instead of rising above everyone. I'd say baby was slightly more athletic, and had very nice soft hands around the rim, but Sully has a much better jumpshot and even better awareness around the basket. In fact his hands are even better than Davis'. Sully is also an excellent passer out of the post and if he can step out beyond 15 feet for the jumpshot his interior passing to cutters like Bradley and Mayo should be excellent.

On that note, it will be interesting to see Sully firing passes out to OJ Mayo and Jeff Green and other 3 point shooters. Too bad Ray won't be here off the bench to receive some of those passes.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

yeah, don't get the BBD comparisons. sullinger is taller, has a much longer wingspan, is not uber-athletic but worlds beyond BBD, and has post moves and footwork that put davis to shame.

"Plays below the rim"

"Not athletic"

"Only 6-9"

"Slow"

Sounds a lot like Kevin Love's scouting report when he came out.

Which one is Love? Which one is Sullinger?

Height w/out shoes
6'7.75"-6'7.75"

Weight
268-255

Bodyfat
10.7%-12.9%

Wingspan
7' 1.25"-6' 11.25"

Standing Reach
8' 9.5"-8' 10"

No Step Vert
29.5-29.5

Max Step Vert
31.0-35.0

Freshman Stats (since Love was 1 and done)
PPG 17.2-17.5
RPG 10.2-10.6
FG% 54.1-55.9
FT% 70.4-76.7
MPG 31.7-29.6

I'll admit that I didn't think Love would be any good in the NBA. Maybe I'm wrong about Sullinger, too. I hope I am!

I think Sully's the one on the left? Because of the 10% bodyfat and the 7 foot wingspan.

Very nice.  I like this.  Although you did leave out passing/assists and 3 pt shooting which are two of Love's three best attributes.

Man! I wish!

If Sully lost 30 lb, put on 15 lb of muscle, got quicker and faster, added 6" of lift, and improved the range and consistency of his jumper then we could talk about Karl Malone.

Absolutely, totally different body types. Hands, arms, legs, backside all different. BBD weighs more is shorter shorter arms smaller hands.
