I don't get this move for the Grizzlies at all.  Totally stupid move.  Offer him the QO and you can always not match, or try to trade him to a team later.  Dumb dumb move.

There is nothing preventing us from resigning Ray and offering the full MLE to OJ Mayo.  We could use the depth.

Mayo will get offered more than the MLE, and Ray Allen seems like he's ready to move on regardelss.  You sure aren't getting both of them if you're also penciling in Avery Bradley for 35MPG.

That is probably true, but you never know.  If he will accept $3M, we can sign both of them.  Hence the fact that nothing is "preventing" us.

No WAY does OJ Mayo accept a 3mil MLE deal.  It's absurd.  You think NJ wouldn't give him at least $6mil per season?  They have tons of cap space and no one to spend it on and are opening a new arena.  There are plenty of other teams out there will cap space who would offer Mayo more than $3mil.  DA will need cap space if he wants to compete for guys like Mayo...like him as a player or not.

If he takes the QO doesn't he get veto rights over possible trades?

I'm thinking they just want to move on from OJ Mayo.

It means they didn't want him to accept the $7.4m QO.
