It'd be nice to have Smith, but it makes more sense for us to get Mayo. I'd then sign Kaman for center duties.

I am sorry, that is too much to give up for J Smith.

It would not surprise me at all if Fab Melo was drafted for Atlanta. I could see the Celtics shipping out the draft rights to Melo + Avery Bradley + Bass (sign and trade) + Bobcats 2013 2nd rounder in an effort to get Josh Smith. Maybe even a third team involved. Flipping assets for a guy with star potential like Josh Smith is an Ainge-type move.

Obviously Mayo, but I really don't see the fascination in him.

He's a decent shooter with good athleticism that plays so-so defense and a position where we are already undersized and have a locked in starter for the next 6+ years.

I guess from the standpoint of a bench scorer it'd work, but I'd rather have Bass- a big who can spread the floor for Rondo, plays underrated defense, and can finish in transition.  Mayo is just a selfish scorer in the mold of Monta Ellis.  No thanks.

Actually, considering the Lakers reportedly offered Pau Gasol, it's probably not enough...

I guess now that Memphis withdrew their QO, he couldn't get Sign and traded to the Celtics or any other team.

So that's great news to me, he can't go to Boston.

It's either Smith or Crawford, i'm ok with Crawford. If he opts in we trade Bass to Portland. He'd be nice off the bench for LMA.

But i'm guessing Ainge drafted Melo for Atlanta.

Last year nobody expected Ainge to draft Brooks, I never expected the Celtics would pick Melo even if some mocks has us picking him.

Why is there such fascination for Mayo? When AB was given the starter duty this year with Ray out, he was putting up buckets night in and night out. Sure, he was inconsistent at times, but that's a facet that will improve as he enters his third season. If I had to go for a scoring guard to augment AB, I'd be much more comfortable with going after someone like Lou Williams, who had a better PER for the Sixers while playing similar minutes with O.J. But statistics aside, Williams has proven time and time again that he can create his own shot, and was the clutch man for them come crunch time. Mayo shrunk and underperformed during the playoffs.

id be more than ok with this move and id be more than ok with the celtics signing mayo.

Rondo/Dooling
Mayo/Petey
Pierce/Green
Smith/Sullinger
KG

With one more big man to fill the reserve center spot, that is a team i absolutely love going to battle with and thinks can be a great contender next year and for years to come.

Bradley played well for less then 20 game stretch at the end of the season when we needed a spark. He was inconsistent for the rest of the year.

People forget that in his rookie season, Mayo put up 18.5 on 44% shooting and 38% from three while also nabbing 4 rebounds a game and playing mediocre/passable defense, and year two he had 17.5 on 48% shooting and 38% from three. He had trouble adjusting to a reserved 6th man role but still averaged 13 a game while doing so. Getting starters minutes, playing with a stud passer like rondo, running in transition, and benefitting from the inside out game of kg and the drive and dish game of rondo and pierce could definitely make Mayo an 18+ point per game scorer again. We need a scorer and a big offensive spark, and he does that very well. His on ball defense is obviously nowhere near Bradleys, but the celts thrive on team defense and rotations and hed fit in just fine.

I totally agree with your assessment of Bradley and Mayo, but I think we're dealing with a player in OJ who doesn't want to be here.

But you've just committed blasphemy on this board, where I read last week that Bradley was a "sure top 3 pick" in last night's draft.

This thread is going to be fun to watch develop.
