I really want Smith in Boston, we could wait for him to become a FA next year but I think this team needs him badly NOW.

This draft was underwhelming IMO, not that Sullinger or Melo are bad, I think they're good but we must have one more piece to this team to have a chance to win, trade one of them.

Josh Smith is that piece, don't like Mayo personally, I wouldn't trade for him. Much rather have Beasley than Mayo.

So how about this trade:

Rights to Melo, Bobcats or Minnesota 2nd next year, sign and trade Bass and Ray (rumour since last year the Hawks like him).

Rockets are still considering trading for Smith ?

And would the Hawks take on so much salary for Gasol with a trade kicker ?

mayo seems much more possible as he's a free agent & will most likely walk anyway , why wouldnt memphis get bass , a very good PF when they'll lose him for nothing most likely

the smith trade hmm not sure cuz maybe but he's a exp contract meaning atl will want to wait ALL the way to the deadline for the best offer it seems like theyre it no rush as of yet & theres other suitors like LA,orlando not just us

i'd want both but a bench with oj mayo, jeff green ,peitrus & jared sullinger is fine with me the key thing IF we do get mayo is to sign Chris kaman & or marcus camby since  kg dosent wanna play C next year

It would not surprise me at all if Fab Melo was drafted for Atlanta. I could see the Celtics shipping out the draft rights to Melo + Avery Bradley + Bass (sign and trade) + Bobcats 2013 2nd rounder in an effort to get Josh Smith. Maybe even a third team involved. Flipping assets for a guy with star potential like Josh Smith is an Ainge-type move.

That's not nearly enough.  A low #1 and Bass and a #2?  I didn't include Ray because there is no way Ray would do a S&T to the Hawks. If he leaves he goes to somewhere he thinks can win it all and that's not the Hawks.  Remember Ray holds the cards..

Mayo.  The Celtics have actually shown interest in him.

The only connection to Smith is from outside sources trying to connect dots (Smith and Rondo are friends; Smith complimented the Celtics...)

At no point have we heard that Ainge or the Celtics liked Smith.

I hope Smith. I think he would complement Rondo well, and we need someone that can try to guard Queen James.

I really think J Smooth will be a Celtic by mid July. I think he wants to play here and while he doesn't have total say in where he goes his agent could pressure Atlanta in to accepting Whatever offer Boston puts on the table.

My guess is that it will be something to the extent of....

BOS gets: Josh Smith

ATL gets: Brandon Bass (S&T. signed for 4 years/28 mil), JaJuan Johnson, Atlanta's choice between Greg Stiemsma or Fab Melo and a future 1st.

Rajon Rondo/ Avery Bradley
Avery Bradley/ Ray Allen
Paul Pierce/ Mickael Pietrus
Josh Smith/ Jared Sullinger
Kevin Garnett/ Brendan Haywood

That would probably be the best defensive team the NBA has seen in the past 10 years. Hell, who knows, Jeff Green may even be back.

mayo more likely since he would be cheaper and fit an area of need if Ray departs.
Celtics fan for life.

I like the idea of getting Mayo but i like Smith more. I see him as more instrumental in finally getting past the Heat.

If Mayo comes here then Rays gone to Miami which could be very dangerous. I hope they get Smith and keep Ray.

Memphis is apparently not extending the QO to Mayo, per reports. This will make him a UFA.

So the question is, do folks prefer to use Bass in a sign-and-trade to get Josh Smith on a one-year deal, or Mayo on a multi-year deal?

Grizzlies Decline Qualifying Offer To Mayo, Hudson; Extend It To Speights, Arthur
Jun 29, 2012 1:10 PM EDT

The Grizzlies have declined to issue the qualifying offer to O.J. Mayo and Lester Hudson, but have done so with Marreese Speights and Darrell Arthur, according to a report from the Commercial Appeal.

Mayo's qualifying offer would have been worth $7.39 million and will now become an unrestricted free agent.

Mayo-   Danny is gonna try to get this deal done. He clearly has it bad for the kid(not that I have a problem with that). I'd be down with an S&T of Bass for Mayo. Mayo has enough ability to handle and facilitate with AB on the floor that together they could make it work just fine. I think a 3 guard rotation of those 3 would work perfectly.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

so does this mean we can no longer sign & trade for him?

I believe Memphis could still sign and trade him.

It also means that he is free to negotiate a contract with any other team in the league.
