Maybe Big Al, D West, And Tony Allen in 2004. Although he did have three first rounders 15,24,25

Getting Rondo alone in 2006 makes that a great draft.

But if in three years Melo, and Sullinger are the starting frontcourt. And Sully is a 20 and 10 guy in three years like I believe he will. Is it his best draft to date?

Interesting.  I think this has the potential to be his worst draft.

disagree.

personally i think this could be one of his best drafts ever. right up there will the al jefferson, tony allen, delonte west one... i cant rate it higher than the rondo one - simply because he got rondo - regardless of marcus banks...

sullinger wouldve went top 3 last year, and the back - ainge said today that doc played 13 years with a hermiated disc - so if danny felt confident enough to draft him - i trust danny.

We let an all star (Perry Jones) talent slip through our fingers...Danny needs to get on the ball more with his scouting department...Just in total shock right now

It was the best we could do with what was offered. May not be the best draft ever by Danny , but maynot be the worst either.

I think the picks all have good upsides.

I'm willing to wait and watch , not everybody lucks out like OKC and lands a rookie team of superstars . .

Considering we didn't BLOW IT UP , and probally have the Celtics playoff core comming back , we did really well.

I give Danny an  A + for effort and being a gambler a bit .   Have to revisit this thread in 2-3 years and see.   Bradley was written off as a total waste and people crying all over the place . but that worked out, same with Roy Hibbert, people thought he was useless.

I'll predict it is average group  at least , but I have a feeling at least one will be a starter somewhere down the road.

I agree that Sullinger could be a 20/10 if he can stay healthy. I think being in the NBA will help him. If he can work and lose another 15-25 lbs that will take a strain off his back and allow him to have a great career that along with improving his mobility.

Melo is very raw but he is very athletic. If he continues to improve his body I see him as a slightly less athletic DeAndre Jordan with a jump shot.

I don't think Kris Joseph makes the team.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

He was "on the ball"... it's all subjective.

I agree on the possibly best and could be pretty bad but not worst I'll say that.  Sullinger totally worth the risk.

How many freaking PF's do we need? If KG came back that would be KG,JJJ,Sulliner, with the possible Wilcox and Bass. Thats a third of the team. Maybe he likes JJJ more than PJ3, and JJJ has a year under his belt and knows the team, and could be quicker in helping the team.

DA wasn't the only GM before or after us that passed on him, so maybe people saw some thing they didn't like.

Melo is a big guy that if DA passed on could have bit him in the but, plus it helps KG want to come back, or its a trade chip in a couple of days to a team that wants a big.

We also don't know whats going to happen in a couple of days. Maybe DA has a trade for Josh Smith. Would you want PJ3 or JSmooth to go after a title this year?

If Ainge, or anyone running an NBA team, likes Johnson more than PJIII, they should lose their jobs. Not even remotely close in talent, athleticism or upside. There is NO comparison between the two.

we won't know where this one will compare to others until a few years have passed and we see how these 3 picks turn out.  We may have a potentially decent front court for the future or we may have a player lost to chronic injury, a complete bust and a player cut before making the team.
What's a big key for me in evaluating Sullinger and Melo is how well the players after them perform.  We had 2 picks.  if they both suck or play so-so and subsequent picks do well -- that will really hurt.

Sort of how the JJJ pick will be judged in comparison to Marshon Brooks' career.  In a couple more years we'll know for sure how we made out but if he doesn't look like a good pick this year, I have no doubts his detractors will be even more vocal.

But the issue with PJ3 is health.
I am reminded of discussions here on Celticsblog a few years ago comparing contrasting PP and TMac. TMac more talent, but only played about half the games a year. You have to factor that in.
In any case, we'll likely revisit all this three years from now.

If they become solid rotation players then the Celtics hit. That's really all you can ask from picking in the 20's. Melo was projected to go as high as 18 and Sullinger was a top 5 pick last year if he came out. I would like the Melo pick a lot more of Clifford Ray was still here but what can you do

It could be the best, it could be the worst.  It's kind of ridiculous to guess at this point.  If Sully's injury woes are dealt with and he plays up to his potential, and Melo develops into a Perk-like defensive presence, it'll be a great draft.  If Sully can't play because of his back, and Melo never develops into anything more than a third-string/poor-man's Stiemer, it'll be terrible.

Less than 24 hours after the draft, who the hell knows?  He drafted a kid who could be outstanding and a kid who could develop into exactly the kind of big man we've been needing - but there are huge risks with each.

Do you work for a scouting department?  Have they already determined rosters of future all star games? I missed that in the new CBA.
