I don't know what people are ****ing about, they should be happy he has a slight back issue, because otherwise there is noway he is available at pick #21. No prospect at that point in the draft is going to be flawless. Getting a player of this caliber at that point in the draft is a steal, and it was the right pick regardless of how it turns out.
TP that.

Ditto. It was a risky pick given the injury. It might not pan out. But if it does, it is a home run. I certainly think it was worth the risk, and we all know Danny doesn't shy away from risk.
Celtics fan for life.

Perry Jones has bad knees...but yet no one talks about that. I think everyone should watch Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, and watch the scene in which Jay and Silent Bob are on tr Internet blogging site...that explains everything here...people always need something to whine and Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. about

I've always felt that when a guy falls dramatically in a draft, you don't want to be the sucker that stops his fall. There's a reason 20 teams passed on him, despite his college performance.

Like when Paul Pierce fell?

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I'm ***ing about the nerve Danny showed drafting an injured version of the last two starting power forwards this team failed to go to the Finals with. Like you, Chris Bosh loves the move more than his favorite pink khakis. Sigh of relief he doesn't have to deal with 2 potential 6'11" athletic pf/sf's who'd better stay with him on the perimeter. Then he calmly admits
Quote
"there are some issues there, and our medical staff thinks that short term and long term there may be some maintenance issues with the back." "it may need surgery at some point, it may not."
Yeah, I'm not giddy about the pick

I was worried about this too at first, but I think Melo would be able to keep with Bosh. Watch video of his lateral movement. He's got amazing anticipation and timing and doesn't fall for fakes like many big men.
I was surprised at how easily he could scoot out to the perimeter and he's lost 30Lbs since NCAA ended so he'd be even faster.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Dissagree completely. Rondo fell to 21 in a horrible draft class and look how he has turned out.

Exactly.  If you're a fan of the Celtics saying this then I am VERY confused.  Our best player fell to 21...   ???

Pierce didn't exactly free-fall.

there were concerns about about pierce's knee back then, and rondo was perceived to be stubborn and had no outside shot. both didnt get drafted higher because of those.

Wow, you guys are unbelievable. We just managed to get a top 10 player in a loaded draft, who is also a big man who can rebound and score in the post, two of our biggest weaknesses, and you would think the sky is falling.

You know who else had surgery recently for a bulging disk in his back? Dwight Howard. THE Dwight Howard, who a lot of people on here would trade the whole team for. I have not seen a single post questioning his long term health or his value on here. Not one.

Also, we drafted a young, athletic, defensive minded 7 ft center, which we desperately need, and people are throwing a fit because we passed on a space cadet with a bum knee who is likely to be a taller Gerald Green.

Most of you guys are going to be changing your tune in a year or two when Sullinger and Melo are dominating the paint night in and night out for us.

So who should we have gotten instead? Don't tell me you wanted PJ3 who, using your logic, shouldn't have had his free fall stop by us, either.

Gerald Green also freefell from being a possible 3 pick. What's happened in the past doesn't matter. Guys at 21 and 22 in any draft have warts. You just have to decide which ones you're willing to take. The warts on these guys - Sullinger's back and lack of athleticism and Melo's lack of an offensive game and potentially intelligence - were the ones Danny was willing to take.

A lot of people thought the Cs needed to take athleticism because that's what's lacking on their team. This draft looked to me like Ainge trying to get guys to fit in to what they have now, not hoping to hit a home run in a rebuild and change things up. I like the idea. Both Sullinger and Melo can play next to KG and give you different looks. Sullinger, while not super tall or long, is a taller, longer version of Davis with an offensive post game, a more consistent shot and fewer mental issues - and Davis was very effective on the whole in his Celtics career. I think he'll be able to slide pretty well into what Bass did for us this year since Bass is gonna get overpaid this offseason and I don't think Danny is gonna be the one to do it - he just might cash in wisely with a sign and trade. I feel like Melo is a lot like Perkins. I don't love that but Perk was also effective for the Celtics. I see two good pairings for KG, and at least one good pairing with Johnson in Melo. I can't say I love these picks, I may have gone differently, but I understand the rationale behind the picks.
Go Celtics.

how about you don't risk it and let JS go through surgery. I'm happy at least is not the knees, because that issue can end your career.

But if he just has this slight back issue, just get the surgery and fix it up. If he misses trainning camp, pre season and 25 games into the year, so be it.
