do any of you even watch college ball? syracuse was #1 because of this kid. Put him under the mentorship of KG, and the skys the limit.

I'll take your word for it.  I wanted a 7 footer with potential for KG to mentor... I guess this guy fits.  BUt is he athletic?  As someone who knows nothing about College basketball, I wanted Perry Jones, mainly because I read he was 6'11 and had crazy athleticism.

Davis was a much better post defender.   I heard crack can kill brain cells though.

No he is not athletic.  He let his team down and is lazy and averaged 6 rpg.

completely agree. Finally excited to have another 7 footer on the team that can actually make an impact. Im sick of our undersized big men getting blocked all the time.

I think he's pretty athletic, but probably not elite. Definitely a strong, strong dude though.

the big knock on Melo is that he's lazy. Rivers said the celtics are going to teach him how to work.

Melo will be decent offensively also.

Being 7' has advantages on both ends of the court, and Melo has some natural coordination.

Most people don't seem to know that he's not a total clutz like Perkins.

I guess that makes Thabeet an all-star.

I wanted Perry Jones as much as the next guy but am not hating the Fab Melo pick. Everyone uses the word potential with PJIII, well with as much potential PJIII has to be an elite offensive player, Fab Melo has just as much potential to be an elite defender.

The only thing keeping Fab Melo back is a little more work ethic, but this might be the best team in the NBA for him to go to for teaching him how to be a proffesional and work harder. Sullinger has the well developed offensive post game, Melo has the defensive, they can pair well together.

agree, there is WAY more to work with than Perk , and Perk was always hurt or something.... Melo has the potential , now if he makes up his mind like Roy Hibbert to do something about getting better. I expect he'll be worked like a dog to bulk up and live and sleep in the gym .  But heck he hasn't been playing BB but a few years.  Amazing he is this good at this point .  Most of the elite players were born holding a basketball.

Give him a couple years .  He'll get better by leaps and bounds I predict , just being around all the older guys.

Melo is smooth but slow and not very agile.

I remember Melo defended against Drummond pretty well during the UConn vs Syracuse game...

Melo might have a lot of potential. I see him as a Roy Hibbert type of player. Not a player that will have an immediate impact but takes time to develop

To be fair, Drummond had 10 and most of the prospects were around there. The longer your arms, the harder it is to benchpress. Meyers Leonard and Tyler Zeller were far and away the "strongest" big men via the benchpress, and they don't seem as sturdy to me as Melo or Sullinger (also 9).

Also - Rivers had 1? Really? Come on, dude.
