Quote
Boston, Houston and the Los Angeles Lakers -- with Pau Gasol as the prime piece being offered in L.A.'s case -- have joined Orlando this week in making their interest in Smith known.

Sry if it has been posted already, didn't see a topic on it

I would have to think it would be after the draft and it would be Bradley,Bass and the 2 first rounders or higher pick if we trade up .

EDIT: My bad just saw it was posted half way though  the Josh Smith to LA thread

Draft night trade doesn't make sense.

Would have to be something done in July.

Don't even know what assets we'd be offering anyways aside from the youngins we pick up tonight.

It says that he just is letting them know we are interested in Smith. Probably like, "Hey let's talk about this some more if you still have Josh after the draft. We are interested and once free agency begins we will have more ammunition to possibly make a deal with you."

Agreed, because then we could do a S&T or something.  Right now, only assets we have to offer that would match salaries are Rondo and Pierce.

Not if Pierce is the main trade chip.

Which wouldn't necessarily be terrible, because we wouldn't need to renounce/free up cap space... And Jeff Green should be playing SF (his natural position).

Rondo, Bradley, Green and Smith would be a nice young athletic core.  Would be nice to get the vets to come back (KG and Ray)... since there would be nothing preventing it from happening.

We'd probably need to give up both draft picks with Pierce, though, right?  Why would Atlanta want him?  And why would Pierce agree to play in Atlanta?  He'd probably just retire.

With KG and Rondo as teammates along with Doc calling the shots I like his game.

Josh Smith is a great basketball player.  He may not have the greatest shot selection, but that comes from not playing with a true point guard and terrible Atlanta offense.  Also his shooting is the last thing he brings to the table.  He's one of the best power forwards in the league in blocks, steals, assists, rebounds and dunks.  He's also a pretty good shooter from the mid-range.  His one weakness is his 3 pt shooting, which he will never do in Boston.  Rondo would only give him the ball when he's in a high percent situation.

I love that core for us. I don't know about that for Pierce or Atlanta, though. Johnson and Pierce on the wings is extremely imposing. That combination by themselves gets them to the playoffs, and Horford and Teague make them pretty competitive.

Come on, man. You should know by now that all we need to get Josh Smith is a S&T with Brandon Bass, #22 and filler. :P

Still new here, but I don't understand all the fascination with Josh Smith. He's going to command somewhere between 12-16 million dollars year, and I personally don't view him as an elite player. I would rather try to spend a chunk of money that large on a player who has the potential to be dominant at his position - like a Lamarcus Aldridge (Just an example at PF). Why not use that money on a few contracts for other very solid but not great role players?

Lamarcus Aldridge will not be a free agent for another 3 years (some time as Rondo), and we don't have the pieces to pry him from Portland.

People like Josh Smith because, when he's playing at his best, he's a game-changing player.  He's very athletic, plays with good effort, can defend multiple positions, and can handle the ball very well for a 4.  People don't like him because he's enigmatic, sometimes falls in love with long jump shots, and doesn't have KG size for the 4.

Personally, I think he's the Rondo of power forwards, good and bad (which may help explain why they're apparently pretty close on a personal level.)  But I love Rondo, even if a couple of times per game I yell at him, and I imagine I'd probably have a similar opinion of Smith if he were on the Celtics.

A lineup of Rondo-Bradley-Pierce-Smith-KG would be defensively stifling.  If Bradley's offense continues to grow, it could be solid offensively as well.
