Draft night trade doesn't make sense.

Would have to be something done in July.

Not if Pierce is the main trade chip.

Pierce, the two firsts and filler is the only trade I could see beating the Lakers with Gasol if they're really serious. it would also lead me to believe that KG isnt coming back if a trade like that goes through, meaning we could expect a line-up (and I think someone posted this above) of Rondo, Bradley, Green, Smith, and a free agent center of sorts. Would be an interesting start to the future should KG retire...

Still new here, but I don't understand all the fascination with Josh Smith. He's going to command somewhere between 12-16 million dollars year, and I personally don't view him as an elite player. I would rather try to spend a chunk of money that large on a player who has the potential to be dominant at his position - like a Lamarcus Aldridge (Just an example at PF). Why not use that money on a few contracts for other very solid but not great role players?

Lamarcus Aldridge will not be a free agent for another 3 years (some time as Rondo), and we don't have the pieces to pry him from Portland.

I wasn't suggesting we go after Aldridge cause I doubt Portland would let him slip away. I was only saying I think he would command a salary similar to Josh Smith, but I would if I were building a team I would rather pay for L.A. than Smith

I get that he's a game changer when he's on, but i haven't seen consistency from him (Maybe cause I don't watch Atlanta enough), while Rondo was much more consistent this past season. And I would love Smith on the team for 10-12 million but i think he'll ask for a lot more.

I hear what you're saying but I think part of Smith's value is screwed up by the salary cap and maximum salaries.  I hate LeBron, but in a free market, he should be paid more than anyone else in the league.  And he's not.  Maybe LaMarcus Aldridge should be paid more than any other PF (that's more debatable, but certainly arguable on either side.)  But he can't be, because there will be a few other PF's earning the same as him (approximately) due to the salary structures.  I think Smith is a dynamic PF who will be in the prime of his career when he signs his next contract, and given that there will be 6-8 PF's with max deals, it doesn't seem unreasonable for him to get one.  Would I prefer Aldridge?  Probably.  But I don't think Smith would be overpaid by league standards to get max or near-max money in 2013.
