You can't move without being hit by a rumor so it might be nothing but say it isn't so!

ATL have been after Gasol for a while now....

That can't be real, right? I mean, Smith for Gasol is bad enough, adding Zaza, a 1st and taking on Artest would just be an abysmal move.

;D Everybody wants Pau but the Lakers.  ???  They have a pretty dang good team , just need a guard or two.

Every NBA team would take Pau including the Celtics,  why , other than he costs a fortune contract wise are they so anxious to dump him.  He is a great player that is mistreated IMO.

As much as I like Josh Smith, I think this is a downgrade for the Lakers. Pau Gasol and Josh have some similarities like rebounding, and passing the ball really well.

But Gasol is a better shooter and offensive player than Josh Smith.

He's also turning 32 in a week. Gasol is a much more impressive player right now, but this would be a move that sets the Lakers up very nicely with a Bynum and Smith frontcourt for the future. That's tough to deal with for the next 8-10 years, rather than 2-3 more years with Gasol. A Smith deal would keep them in the hunt next year and relevant for the next decade.

Much better deal for lakers than Smith. Lakers can draft MJG to be their SF, and okafor will demand that Bynum gets touches.

If Atlanta throws in Teague with Smith and Williams and takes back Artest, it becomes a more even deal.

Better idea for LA in my mind:

LA: Gasol and Artest to Orlando
Houston: Lowry, Scola & 16 to LA; Martin & 18 to Toronto; 12 to Orlando.
Toronto: 8 to Orlando.
Orlando: Dwight to Houston; Hedo to LA.

LA: Lowry, Kobe, Hedo, Scola, Bynum.
Houston: Rent Dwight for a season and get 35 mill in cap space.  Dragic (or Deron), Lee, Harkless with #16, FA, Dwight.
Toronto: Calderon, Martin, Kleiza, Nicholson with #18,Bargani
Orlando: FA or pick, Reddick, Artest, Baby, Gasol with BPA at #8 & 12

New post on Hoopshype as of less than 5 minutes ago:

But new Hawks general manager Danny Ferry apparently isn't ready to part with Smith right away. Boston, Houston and the Los Angeles Lakers -- with Pau Gasol as the prime piece being offered in L.A.'s case -- have joined Orlando this week in making their interest in Smith known. ESPN.com

So we are going for him

What do we have to offer? Must have a 3rd team involved if possible. Come on Celtics! Don't give up Pierce Or Rondo and get Smith and I will be a happy man!

At this point, and of course depending on what KG does, a Pierce for Smith straight up deal wouldn't be such a bad thing for the Celtics. Maybe get greedy and ask for 23, but I doubt it.

JJ and Pierce would be one of the most physically imposing backcourts in the league - nightmarish for the undersized wings on so many teams - both guys thrive whenever they get a smaller guy on them.

i saw a rumor floating around on realgm (so take it with a grain of salt) it was a three way where Pierce goes to the Lakers, Pau goes to the Hawks and Smith and Pachulia come to Boston. It's intersting but i would NEVER trade Paul Pierce.
