Pau Gasol and Josh Smith have seemingly been on the NBA trade rumor mill for the last 2-3 years, so maybe it's fitting the two under-appreciated PF's have now been linked together: QuoteMike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan The Atlanta Hawks have been pursuing Pau Gasol, The Times has learned. Nothing imminent, but Josh Smith would be key piece going to Lakers.

Great way to get younger for the Lakers while still being competitive. What other pieces they'd get for Gasol would make or break the deal however.

I'm sure that's who the Hawks would want to send, whether or not the Lakers would accept that is another matter.
FWIW, a straight-up trade doesn't work. Atlanta has to send out additional payroll (Pachulia or Marvin Williams).Lakers reportedly also want a lottery pick in any Gasol trade. Atlanta doesn't have one, unfortunately.

JJ/Horford/Gasol would be a fearsome trio. I imagine the Lakers would insist on Teague accompanying Smith. Teague/Kobe/Artest/Smith/Bynum - still pretty woeful in terms of perimeter shooting/spacing, but much more dynamic defensively and dribble penetration offensively.
