Pau Gasol and Josh Smith have seemingly been on the NBA trade rumor mill for the last 2-3 years, so maybe it's fitting the two under-appreciated PF's have now been linked together:

The Atlanta Hawks have been pursuing Pau Gasol, The Times has learned. Nothing imminent, but Josh Smith would be key piece going to Lakers.

Love the trade for Atlanta, but not so much for LA. With Bynum and Smith in at C and PF they would have no one to space the floor. Plus I think Smith wouldn't be as effective in the half court unless you can get Nash to sign there to space the floor and get Kobne,Smith and Bynum easy looks.

Great way to get younger for the Lakers while still being competitive. What other pieces they'd get for Gasol would make or break the deal however.

Not true at all. Remember they just hired Ferry and given him the keys to mix up the team.

Its gotta be Marvin Williams, right?

Smith/Williams for Gasol?

FWIW, a straight-up trade doesn't work. Atlanta has to send out additional payroll (Pachulia or Marvin Williams).

Lakers reportedly also want a lottery pick in any Gasol trade. Atlanta doesn't have one, unfortunately.

I'm sure that's who the Hawks would want to send, whether or not the Lakers would accept that is another matter.

I think they are going to amnesty Artest so Williams would be a good fit

I think they'd be happy with Josh Smith in lieu of a lottery pick.

I think LA would want to dump Artest into the deal if they are taking back Marvin Williams.

It's been reported that LA wants an established player AND a top 10 pick for Gasol.

JJ/Horford/Gasol would be a fearsome trio.

I imagine the Lakers would insist on Teague accompanying Smith.

Teague/Kobe/Artest/Smith/Bynum - still pretty woeful in terms of perimeter shooting/spacing, but much more dynamic defensively and dribble penetration offensively.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Josh Smith is an all-star caliber player, that's a bit better than "established".

But who knows I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers are demanding crazy bids for Gasol.

I agree , I think the Hawks really win in this deal.
