If Zeller slips i'd be pumped. I think he could come in and start right away for us and average 10/10.

I agree, I think Zeller has a very similar game to Andy Varejao.  Which at mid first round money would be a bargain.
I don't see the similarity in those two.

Really?  Physically they are very similar.  AV listed at 6'11 260 LB, Zeller listed at 7 Foot 250 LB, im sure once he gets on the pro workout routine he will put on another 5-10 pounds.

They are both very effective rebounders.  Zeller averaged almost 10 rbs per game even with the ACC DPOY lined up next to him on a night in night out basis.

Both have very quick feet on the defensive end.

Both have complementary offensive games which in the NBA will rely on layups and putbacks.
I don't think Zeller is all that quick and I question if his athleticism matches AVs.

I'm also confused by the complimentary bit on offense. Zeller was UNCs go to scorer in the half court.
I see Zeller as a faster more skilled Jeff Foster with a better shot.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Zeller's got quite the motor.  I could see him as a rotation player for 10+ seasons but not much more than that.  At best, he'll provide some frontcourt depth off the bench. but I'd cringe if you're starting him.

Zeller may end up with a better offensive game than AV's but I watched Dennis Clifford look impressive in the post in the ACC last year mainly because he was a 7 footer.  When Zeller starts going up against people with similar size I think his offensive game will suffer.  He won't get as good post position and won't be able to shoot over players like he did in the ACC.

Meanwhile I having watched Zeller for 4 years I think he is at least as good an athlete as AV probably a little better.  Nbadraft.net says,

Quote
Added in with his size, Zeller is also a fluid athlete, and is certainly mobile showing some leaping skills, particularly with a head of steam … Runs the floor as well as any C prospect out there, and has a high level of speed for a guy his size

Tyler Zellar to me is a Jeff Foster type. Very good backup C , but not much else. He seems really soft to me though.

I don't think he's soft, he played very physically for UNC in the post and on the boards.

Steamer & Zeller are both mediocre / borderline awful players.  Why blow a draft pick on a player that can do what we already have (provided Steamer re-signs, which I think he will)?  Zeller is a stiff, and it shows just how weak the center position is and how much less important that position will be moving forward...

Being white and seven feet tall isn't enough similarity to be a "clone" they play very differently.

Zeller may not be as goood a shot blocker but he is a much better rebounder and low post scorer than Steamer.  Steamer may have a better jump shot, not sure.

Zeller has a little bit more of a back-to-the-basket game.  Steamer is more athletic.  But neither brings that much to the table.  A few short years ago, and Zeller would be a 2nd round pick...he's just not that talented.
