Jamal Crawford will either be traded on draft night or opt out and become an unrestricted free agent. The Portland Trail Blazers extended the deadline for Crawford to opt out from June 15 to June 29, which gives them the opportunity to shop him on the night of the draft.

If the Blazers find a trade partner that Crawford deems suitable, he could opt in to the final year of his contract and be dealt to that team, making $5 million next season. If Portland can’t put together a trade, Crawford will opt out and test free agency.

If Crawford becomes a free agent, he’ll have plenty of potential suitors. The Minnesota Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers are among the teams expected to pursue Crawford, according to league sources.

Wouldn't mind adding a scorer/shooter like that off the bench. Plus unlike Ray he can create his own shot , but if we go after him it pretty much means Ray is gone.(Crawford is 5 years younger)

I could see a 3 year 15-18 mil offer,but wouldn't go much over that.

Agreed.  I'd really want 1, but I understand that's a slim chance.

Would love that kind of gunner and shot creator off the bench though.

Sounds like he'd rather be traded than a FA, indicates they fear he'd get squeezed to a smaller deal than his current one. (MLE or mini-MLE)

So we could get him for 1 year (his current contract) if we had a trade asset?

That'd be perfect.  Wouldn't someone like Moore work? A young asset for them.  We can absorb the difference in salary with cap I think... but might need to renounce Bird Rights first to a player (going from what I got of the Ainge interview)

Pretty sure Crawford can't be traded on draft night, because the last remaining year on his contract is a player option that he holds. I don't believe player options can be exercised at this point in the season.

Not sure whether I want Crawford here or not. I don't think I do.

I'd seriously like to know how the Heat can keep getting their pick of free agents with the roster they have.

I'd rather pursue JR Smith.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Hm?  They have a very desirable destination and if they have the room they get the players.  Wouldn't be surprised if they amnesty Mike Miller for extra room this off season.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.

Ray's performance at his age isn't exactly a baseline for all guards though.

Jamal Crawford..pass. He can shoot it, can't do much else, and likes getting paid. Pass.

I would have loved Crawford last year.  This year, I would prefer we go younger, particularly if we are keeping KG and company.  We need to transition as may positions as we can, while still maintaining the nucleus.

With that said, if he came in for a 1 year deal at reasonable money, I would have trouble turning it down.
