His weight doesn't concern me nearly as much as how lost he appeared every time he got minutes.

Ditto
Hopefully like Bradley with an offseason program he will seize the opportunities he is given. But given that Bradley's leap in play is the exception I'm concerned.

What offseason program?

Things he didn't have last year, like summer league, training camp and the like.

Bradley has never gotten that...

So he wasn't with the team at all before his rookie season started?

Bradley was injured before the draft and recovering all that summer and fall.  He could watch, but he wasn't cleared to practice or play. So, no, Bradley really has never had a summer league, nor a full pre-season, nor much in the way of team practices in his pro career.

Ha ha--Bradley went knocking on Doc's door down in Orlando last summer (before the lockout).  I'd like to see 3J go do that!

Too much focus on weight on this thread.  Simply put, you could have two guys the same height and weight, yet one be considerably stronger than the other.  Take someone like Sheed.  He was never a heavyweight bu he was a lot stronger than he looked.  Same can be said for someone like Robert Parish, Kareem, Camby, and on and on.

One of the issues with JJJ is in fact strength.  He is certainly thin, but he looks even thinner from the hips down.  Indeed, he has almost no hips.

So I think it will be more difficult for him to get stronger, but get stronger he must.

I know he had ankle surgery before the preseason started but observing the practices and games and going to the meetings and the like is better than nothing, which is what last year's rookies got.

Given how abominably bad Bradley was in his rookie year (looked lost and incompetent in everything but on-ball defense), there may be reason to be optimistic on JJJ.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Tayshaun Prince looked like he never lifted a weight or ate a steak in his life and he was a major piece to a championship squad for 5 years.

Who cares about weight.  If the dude can hit shots, block shots, run and throw down, and play D, he is more than welcome on my C's.

I don't get why people are being so hard on this kid. When did he let anybody down? You guys are so down on people after hardly anything...

Other than a few occations, Jajuan basically only played garbage minutes. He only had 12 games with double digit MINUTES. Out of those 12 he scored double digits in 4, he also scored 11 in a game he only play 9 minutes.

Anybody that thinks he can play small forward is crazy. If he gained 10 pounds that's great, that means he's 5-10 pounds away from being a regular in the rotation.

Fast, quick, long, can shoot, lateral quickness for half court help D, uses his left hand around the paint, when available rises quick for some throw downs...

Not afraid of contact...

Get him 10-20 pounds "stronger", especially in the legs, and I think he could be a solid contributor.

I saw a lot of good things for him when he played this year. He has a lot of different skills.

Just needs to slow down, get the rotations and get stronger.

Bullish in JJJ - time...

He's one of the strongest players in the draft class. Certainly gaining muscle would help but just because he's wiry doesn't mean he's weak.

The system is a tough one to learn. I think, like Bradley, if he loosens up he'll be a great contributor.

If only we'd kept Big Baby.  He would have been a great role model for JaJuan.  He could have taught him a thing or two about how to pack on the pounds.

Yup ,  Baby knew his way around a buffet table... ;D

Big Baby would have eaten all of Jajuan's food, box him out of the buffet table. He'd probably end up losing weight.

I'd like to see him work on his balance. Springy guys like that don't always know how to set a good base and can get moved around when they have to react because they're on their toes. Given how athletic he is I'm sure he could overpower guys when he has momentum.

I feel like JJJ is going to be a player. No sulking all season and I'm sure he soaked a lot in.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
A bit more muscle and some working on the Celtics defense all summer and in pre season/summer league is going do this kid wonders.
Here's a video of his senior highlights at Purdue.
Takes people to the hole off the dribble, rebounds, even hits some threes.
Notables: His blocks (which we knew about). His rebounding and his fadeaway half hook/jumpshot.
Also watch him grab a rebound, find the guard for an outlet pass and then gallop down the floor.

Hopefully he gets defense right and Doc gives him a proper shot. As he said himself 'My time will come'.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The thing is... He doesn't play "D" yet. Which is hardly his fault. I'm willing to give the dude another chance. He hasn't yet done anything that merits a rotation place, but at the same time he hasn't done anything that suggests that he doesn't have the potential to be a contributor. Give the dude another shot

The kid has a strong upper body, its his lower that is the issue. Thats why he gets pushed around in the post.

Hopefully thats were he's adding most of the weight.

If we cant get anything of value for him in trade, use him and Moore as prospect looks for the duration of their contracts then go from there.  They're either gonna contribute to some degree off the bench or not.  I dont see either one starting in the league before their contract is up, if anyone I'd say Moore.
