I love that they're going to tackle this in some way shape or form. I hope it's better than the last time Stern said he'd do something about flopping. All he did was hire a ex-military guy to lead a flopping committee that promised to deal with the issue. Nevermind the guy's credentials for reviewing NBA games, it showed how tough and committed the NBA was to get rid of flopping. I mean, ex-military, Stern wasn't messing around, he was going at this hard! Yep, so hard that nothing ever came out of that from the league at all. It was as if the whole thing was a PR stunt. Talk about sham initiatives, you couldn't get any shammier.
It would have been so great if the NBA had the ex-military guy do videos like Brendan Shananan did as the NHL discipline czar. If he had the gift of chewing out floppers like a Hollywood version of a drill sergeant, it would've been gold.
There was one good thing that came out of the first anti-flopping initiative though and it was a big reduction in the flops by Anderson Varejao. Varejao came out at the time admitting that he flopped and that he couldn't believe he got away with it so much but since the NBA was going to crack down on it, he'd stop. Even though they did no such thing, he actually toned it down. I can't say he stopped completely because I didn't watch all his games but there was a big change. To this day I don't understand why he changed his ways while flopping intensified but I respect him more for it.
