Yes, JR Smith comes with a high knucklehead factor.  If the Cs decide to re-load and sign KG for a few more years, they will need some wing firepower to contend with Miami and Chicago.

Smith is going to opt out and be a FA.  It's rumored that Ray Allen wanted to play for the Knicks, who could use some veteran leadership and stable outside shooting.

Smith could benefit by being on a team with no nonsense vets and a respected coach.  Rondo would make Smith such a better player by feeding him in transition and getting him his outside shots, as opposed to Smith dribbling from 30 feet and then launching.  Rondo and Bradley starting with Smith as the third guard, is a versatile group with all kind of skills.

Signing Smith for four years, $25m would give the Cs a three man back court at around $19m for the next couple of years, which is very reasonable money.

I'm the kind of guy who is usually all for going for players despite their personality problems. I was all for Nate Robinson and was pulling for the Celts to get Beasley but Smith is an absolute, bonafied nut job.

After chemistry issues with guys like Rasheed, Nate, Big Baby, Delonte the Celtics sort of strayed away from guys like that and brought in hard working, blue collar guys like Bass, Dooling, Pietrus who will buy in to playing team defense. I think they'll continue that trend since it worked out pretty well for them. If the Celtics are spending $25 mil on a back up guard i rather it be a guy like that. Maybe a Danny Green, Courtney Lee type.

This is sort of along the same lines as the thread talking about trading Dwight Howard to the Thunder.

Why would a unified team want to take on a diva or an idiot??  No matter how talented they are?

I watched the Sox - Cubs game....Saw what dysfunctional players / teams are like.

Papi...Who seems far from dysfunctional jogged around the bases and got thrown out at home on what should have been a routine run scored.

Soriano didn't even bother to jog to first on a play where a ball was bobbled and he could have kept an inning going.

They may have the best numbers on their respective teams...As might Smith if he ever focused...But if they're cancers when they don't put forth effort or the team is in disarray.

Smith would fit in perfectly where he currently is or on the messiah's team.

I would absolutely love to have him here, him and rondo would be scary on the break. However, i think we could spend our money more wisely elsewhere...

However, if were to take a contract similar to what ray would take for next year. I would be willing to replace smith with allen. Younger more athletic version of what ray would provide, certainly without as big of a three point threat. But i think that could be mad up with his athleticism and ability to run transition with rondo.

I think he will get a bigger contract then what we would be willing to offer however.

Another guy in the JR Smith mold is Nick Young, also an UFA on a team where Ray Allen would fit,the Clippers.

Maybe S and T Ray Allen for Nick Young and Chauncey Billups, who, if he can put his Achilles back together, could be a nice backup to Rondo.  He's a KG pay, and maybe the both of them would like to make a run for ring #2 together.

All these young wing players are going to have flaws, especially when compared to Ray Allen, but the Cs are going to need a big wing to complement Bradley.  Young and Smith both ahve the skills and size, but both come with huge questions marks.  I contend that a system like Boston, with vets like KG and Pierce, a respected coach like Rivers, and a great PG who controls things like Rondo is the best play for this type of player to thrive.

I personally like Terrence Williams whom we could probably get for cheap. Can knock down 3's and defend.

Yep, I think so.

I think a guy like Rondo (low volume scorer, elite facilitator) makes it a lot easier to make it work with a high volume offensively orientated role player like Nick Young or JR Smith.

Signing Smith for four years, $25m would give the Cs a completely unreliable headcase who only cares about scoring way too much money and will submarine our franchise.
