So apparently green is the second best free agent on the market (according to his agent).  While I don't believe that is completely accurate, I would  it be shocked if it took a much bigger contract than a anticipated to sign him?  Is he worth it?  Who knows.

The one thing that bugs me (as I recall) is that DA did him a favor to make him an unrestricted FA this year.  A little favor in return shouldn't be out of the question.

Well, we shall see.  It's a weak free agent class.

The Celtics should hesitate to match or even beat any offer on a 1-2 year deal, but I'd be wary about big deals lasting longer than that.  Unless Danny is absolutely convinced Green can be a star, we can't destroy our future cap flexibility over a guy who may be no more than a 3rd or 4th option on a contender.

Still, I think teams will hesitate to give him a long deal.  Sure, he should be fully recovered from this heart condition, but I doubt many teams will be offering him mega deals in case something like this reoccurred.

i'd be appalled if the Celtics gave Green a contract anywhere from 7-9 mil. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player, i just don't think he solves any needs. What the Celtics need is a 4 that can score and rebound. Green is more effective at the 3 and if Pietrus and Pierce are back next year (which i think they will be) then what's the point of wasting that much on Green?

If he gets a big contract, let him leave.

Jeff Green is not worth that financial risk. Not coming off of heart surgery.

Seconded. I still believe he is overrated to some extent.

15 playoff games (6 in OKC, 9 in Bos)
Green FG%.374  3P%.349  PTS9.1  TRB3.5

Hopefully Jeff Green takes a while to sign with us. We have his bird rights and his cap hold can't be high since he didn't play last year. If we fill out our roster with FA early on then we can offer Green a big one yeah contract over the cap closer to the end of free agency.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Check out Green's career stats compared to Charlie V., whose FA deal a few summers ago is a burden to Detroit's salary structure at 5 years and $38m.

Both guys are 3/4 tweener types who don't rebound much but shoot well and can run the floor.  Neither guy is a defensive whiz, although some try to pump up Green as some kind of potential LeBron stopper (I don't see it).

I thought DA was crazy to give Green $9m this past summer, but as a one year deal, it wouldn't have been that big a deal. Any team crazy  to give him a long term deal anywhere near $9m per will regret it.

Green is pretty much the definition of average.

Paying 6-9 million per year to average players is how franchises get crippled

Falk is earning his paycheck by stating something that I doubt is true. I believe the number to be closer to what he said at the end of the article, in terms of legitimate interest from teams.

Quote
"We've picked out three or four teams, of which Boston is one, that he has a high level of interest in talking to," Falk said. "I would say that Boston is the incumbent, but I've learned in this business not to assume things. Nothing is guaranteed.
"

People forget that Green had to settle for a 1 yr deal at 9M (a figure that was way more than market value) because quite simply the money was not there from other teams. The C's will be in a similar position as last year and will likely give him a 1 yr deal at yearly figure more than last season. I expect him to sign a 1 yr deal at around 5-6M and remain in Boston next season.

Green is an unrestricted free agent.  I'd be shocked if he couldnt get more than that in the open market.  In terms of the surgery, what is the history?  If there is minimal risk, then it will be like it never happened.

Um, no.  Greens cap hold Is just ver 11 mil. So there will be no circumventing the cap.

Can the Celtics send him to Sac for Evans?
