JJJ is a stretch 4.  He is 6'11".  My guess is he is our backup PF going into next year, with Jeff Green backing up Pierce at the 3.

I believe he measured 6'9" w/o shoes at the combine.

But I think going from 15th on the team to first PF off the bench in five months is expecting a lot.
Jjjs game is fine.  Te big question will be whether he can gain enough strength to contribute.

doc pretty much said it...offensively, he is an NBA player right now....defensively though, hes not there yet(kind of opposite of Bradleys freshman year)

the 2 games he filled in for bass(when he was out with the knee injury) he played the role pretty well. pick and pop, hit the open J..he's also more athletic so he can run with rondo...BUT opposing PF's pushed him around whenever they wanted in the post.

this off-season he needs to work on the defensive schemes and his Strength more than anything...KG is pretty skinny, but he's strong enough where most centers in this league have trouble playing against him

I'm under the impression he's deceptively strong. He apparently had the best numbers on the bench press in the draft combine. He also guarded Marc Gasol against the Grizzlies pretty well.

I think it has more to do with Doc not playing the rooks, though. I'm not holding it against Doc anymore though because clearly it is working. AB earned his minutes slowly but surely and is now very comfortable on the floor. Could he play the young ones more? Sure. But why mess with what's been working all along? The point is, Jajuan might be more NBA ready than you'd think.

I think he needs to put on about 10-15 more pounds of muscle, he has potential but I don't think you're looking at anything better at his peak than a solid rotation player (like Big Baby). Not a bad thing, but I just don't think we have a core player in JJJ. This is coming from one of the five people who told people to give Bradley some time in his second year when everyone wanted him cut so Moore could have more minutes.

Maybe JJJ becomes a 15 ppg scorer next year, I don't necessarily believe that will happen but you never know.

Id say that's abour right...jjj has potential to be a bass/baby/landry type player.

JJJ is a push over. He is always tentative and lost out there. He does not have a comfort zone. Oh, and I am just talking about these while he is at the bench!

  • You say when......
I saw plenty good from the kid..in VERY short minutes, and mostly garbage time...never judge a player from garbage time...it is mental-pickup out there...everyman for himslef type....survivor island even.....He can shoot, block shots, get up, move well without the ball, REBOUND.....but he HAS TO PLAY..esp on a "no practice team" ( which i detest) I hope they keep him, and someone makes doc adjust his way of thinking about playing these young guys......In a regualr season, they should be play ALOT in Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb...i mean prime time, with the starters, in hoop you need team confidence, this will build it, make a team a team....why...well, haven't we seen why...injuries, if for no other.but also to put in players that the other team has no idea, or not as much.....it is, after all, a chess match...Barkley stole that from ME..! ( Borrowed, i like chuck, so it is okay..!).

Let's hope he hasn't got too comfortable on the bench!

doc pretty much said it...offensively, he is an NBA player right now....defensively though, hes not there yet(kind of opposite of Bradleys freshman year)

the 2 games he filled in for bass(when he was out with the knee injury) he played the role pretty well. pick and pop, hit the open J..he's also more athletic so he can run with rondo...BUT opposing PF's pushed him around whenever they wanted in the post.

this off-season he needs to work on the defensive schemes and his Strength more than anything...KG is pretty skinny, but he's strong enough where most centers in this league have trouble playing against him
this was a year ago
He completed 15 reps at 185 pounds, one of the top numbers measured in this draft class. It's even more impressive when you consider Johnson's 7-foot-2 wingspan.

What's even more impressive is that JJJ can bench 330.

Any athlete (except some football players can nowhere near bench 100lbs over their body weight. Very impressive!

A nice thought, but I don't buy it--not if he couldn't do more than 15 at 185.  Still, he's deceptively strong for his looks.

JJ might put up strong bench numbers but they don't convert to the basketball court. He needs to strengthen his lower body and his core to be more effective on the boards. Lots of Squats and Deadlifts would do him wonders. Like Doc said, he has the offensive game to play at this level, but he is pushed around too easily to be an effective rebounder or post defender.

Question...What body type was Marcus Camby when he came into the league ...to lead the league in rebounding for a few years...and always be in the top 10-20..?

No need to doubt. His 330 bench press has been reported from a lot of sources. Here's one:

"“He's also very strong. A lot of people don't realize he can bench press 330 pounds because he doesn't look that way."
