Trade Paul Pierce, and still win now

Boston gets Gortat and Brown for P Pierce
Suns gets Butler, Bledsoe and a Clippers second and Boston 1st round pick
Clippers get P Pierce


Not sure if the Suns think Bledsoe and a couple picks is worth Gortat.  But the Clippers get Pierce and ride them selves of Butler.

I think the best bet would be to trade Pierce for a top 5 pick, say Sacramento's #5 pick, and draft Barnes. Sacramento is in need of a veteran presence and have the cap room to take on his contract. As for us, we could use the money saved and give Hibbert a max deal at 12:01 and force Indy to match. If they do, you could then focus on McGee, for around 10-12M. In fact, I think McGee is the better fit, despite being the consolation prize, for the uptempo attack we seem to want to run. With our cap space we would also be able to re-sign KG and Green (Pierce replacement), plus also make a strong run at Mayo (Allen replacement).

Mayo would be our 6th man in a 3 man backcourt rotation with Rondo and Bradley. Barnes can back up Green when Green either sits or slides to the 4. Johnson and our 1st rd draft pick can battle it out for the backup 4. While Steimsma and Wilcox can fight for minutes behind Hibbert/McGee.

A 9 man rotation that has good interior size and overall athleticism.

As much as I'd like paul pierce to end his career a celtic, I'd much rahte rhe be traded if we can get some young necessary pieces.  I get the loyalty but after awhile ya gotta move on.

How can you be so certain? Years ago the Grizz were blasted for trading away Abdur-Rahim for a an unproven young Euro.

I thought about that too, but I think playing for Doc and a contending team is the most important thing to KG. If we're able to replace Pierce with Green and add Hibbert in the middle, you would have to think KG would sign off on that.

Side note: I know a lot of people want KG to play C. However, how long can he last banging down low for a full 82 games? I would rather have him playing PF/C in a 50/50 split.

I'd go for Ilyasova over McGee, but I like your thinking.  I believe there are more ways to be good this year and going forward by trading Pierce than by not.  Trick may be for Danny to sooth KG into resigning despite such a trade.

I'd go for Ilyasova over McGee, but I like your thinking.  I believe there are more ways to be good this year and going forward by trading Pierce than by not.  Trick may be for Danny to sooth KG into resigning despite such a trade.

I don't because of McGee's upside and his ability as a shotblocker. Plus, I question KG's durability to handle the 5 spot for 82 games...plus playoffs.

I would hate to see PP not retire in green though.  To do so would also make KG retire.   Ray, I can live without.   It would be tempting for a top five but will the top five pan out.  One would have to be sure it is a lock and salaries do not match straight up.

Harrison Barnes disappears too often for me to have any interest in him, and I don't like his wingspan either. I have zero interest in him, and am totally opposed to drafting him, let alone trading a franchise icon to make the mistake of the pick.

Suns get a pick, get good potential for a guard in Bledsoe and Butler's veteran presence.
Clippers get the scorer they need to have. It's their missing piece.
And Celtics get a freak of a guard who doesn't have any other skills to be called a decent rotation player for an above average team under normal circumstances.
Gortat, though he would be a very nice addition, is costing us way too much in this scenario.

Harrison Barnes disappears too often for me to have any interest in him, and I don't like his wingspan either. I have zero interest in him, and am totally opposed to drafting him, let alone trading a franchise icon to make the mistake of the pick.

disappears to often? Try disappearing almost all of last season. If Delusional Danny actually trades PP for a top 5 pick so he can get small time Harrison Barnes then he should be replaced on the spot.
