I just have a strange feeling Danny feels like he dodged a bullet!

Me too.  Glad to have the cap space and Bird rights more than the player at this point.  We're not building around Brandon Bass.

Danny will have much more important things to tend to than offering Bass a contract early in Free Agency.

I'll be sad to see Bass go but he isn't worth the years and the $$ he is going to want (BBD like contract). If he was a better rebounder I would be on board bringing him back but sadly he is not.

Now the real question should be can danny pull of another S&T like he did with BBD for Bass?

Possible targets

Anthony Morrow  1 yr 4 mill left on his deal
J Maxiell       1 yr 5 mill
J Jerebko       4 yr 4.5 mill
R Gomes         1yr  4mill
J McRoberts     1yr  3mill
W Johnson       2yr  4mill
T Ariza         2yr  6.8mill
C Frye          3yr  5.6mill

I dont know that many of these would be feasible for either team.

I could see the Wesly Johnson trade working especially if beasly leaves the T-Wolves and they plan on using D Williams more at a 3.

He certainly didn't help himself with his overall performance in the playoffs, so maybe that will work to Boston's advantage. Or, like another poster said, maybe this will allow Boston to bring back Ray.

I thought everyone was convinced he wouldnt opt out?

I think everyone was convinced he'd be back with the team. Opting out and coming back are not mutually exclusive.

true.  I'd like to see bass back but not sure he's starter material for us especially if we can get some good bigs in the draft.  I think this may change Danny's thinking especially if he wants a higher 1 pick as opposed to two lower ones.  I would not put any stock in JJJ or steimsma to contibute the same way Bass did so that;s the only option.

This shouldn't have surprised anyone.  He'd have been a fool not to opt out.

I think it's quite likely he isn't back.

If I'm Danny, I'd offer to overpay him on a 1-2 year deal (maybe 7-8 million per year) if he plans on bringing KG (and possibly Ray back).  He's worth it with the Core Four.  We absolutely cannot offer him more than two years, though.

However, Bass gets most of his offense off of open jumpers and dunks.  He won't get that if he's featured in an offense, so we shouldn't pay him like that.

I also think Danny will look long and hard at JaJuan Johnson as a replacement for Bass.  He was our first round pick, so he should be looked at to step in and play a role next year.  Plus, like Bass, he can hit a jumper and finish around the rim.

Now we just need him to bulk up some.

Smart move.  Can't turn down a chance at more years of guaranteed money after a solid year.

I wonder who the primary suitors will be.  Indiana might want him - he'd certainly do better with the looks Hansbrough gets.  Cleveland could use a good pick and pop guy to work with Irving.  Golden St. needs a back-up big in a pretty bad way.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I liked Bass until he became a starter and then couldn't handle a lot of Rondo's passes to him when he was wide open in the post. If Big Baby Davis had T-Rex arms, Bass has Baby Hands with grease on them. He's got Butterfingers at the wrong times. Otherwise, I thought he played pretty well and even kept us in or was the difference in a game or two.

Max I would be comfortable with would be around 2 years at $10 million total. Otherwise, he can carry his Bass.

Torn on this one.

I don't want to overpay him as a starter, but I'd be willing to give him his money as an elite bench player.

I think if we're going to bring back KG for one more run, it's crucial we get Bass back.

I'd much prefer to have a rebounding defensive big starting next to KG, but we need Bass to have a shot at a title.   He is a quality young player that works very well with Rondo, and it's not so much that Bass is the greatest thing ever, but he's the best we'll be able to get in a limited market at a hopefully reasonable price.

Rondo / Dooling
Bradley / Moore
Pierce / Green / Pietrus / Marquis
Wilcox / Bass / JuJuan
KG / Stiemsma / Hollins

That's a championship calibre starting five with a deep bench we can feel comfortable with along with a lot positional versatility and should give us some cap flexibility the year after so we can snag Josh Smith.

Interesting note from agent Tony Dutt: Bass took less cash to play in Orlando; might consider same for Boston (needs fair-value contract)

Yeah this is what matters to me.

I would like Frye.

I honestly think that Jajuan johnson can fill the Bass role as pick+pop stretch 4...he has a silky jumper

the couple games when he came off the bench when bass was injured, he put up 10pts and 12pts

he just has to get bigger so he can play more in the post and go for rebounds...if he can, he'll be more athletic option

Well, I'm a little surprised, but not too much I guess.

This likely spells the end of Bass in Boston.  Bass is going to want multiple years, and quite frankly, I doubt Danny will offer them.  I hope he doesn't.  Bass for a year is ok, for multileyears would be a mistake.

Good riddance.
