Wow.  NJ Nets are just embarrassing.  If Stern can revoke the New Orleans - LAL trade of Chris Paul for basketball reasons how in the H-E-double hockey sticks can the NBA approve the Nets sending a lottery pick to PDX for 16 games of Gerald Wallace?  16 games!

Our picks and Bradley for the Nets 1st round unprotected pick next year. Seriously, they are going to blow hard in 2013.

I feel so bad for Brooklyn Nets. No 1st round draft pick in a deep draft and both the superstar and the star opts out.

i agree with the OP. How can Stern allow such travesty. Would've at least made sure that Crash accepted the option first.

They're screwed, Orlando will NOT trade Howard for Brook Lopez and no Picks, how the hell did they trade a lottery pick for gerald wallace?

Deron is most certainly leaving, ain't waiting for Dwight Howard.

And even if they're in Brooklyn they won't attract Howard to go there, Howard's gotta come to Boston right ? What other teams can get him now since we're going to have cap space both this summer and the next ?

No reason why Brooklyn doesn't resign Wallace to a multi-year deal.

They might even end up saving cap space. That option was for $9.5 million.

The nets are gonna be a 12-15 win team max next year after williams leaves as well... they really are screwed, they need to get rid of Billy King thats their main problem

But if NJ/Brooklyn has cap space and Wallace wanted to sign with them, then why didn't they wait for Wallace to opt out of his deal with Portland?  Then they get to keep their lottery pick.

I guessing they traded the pick for Wallace to demonstrate to Deron Williams that they were serious about putting together a contending team.

Trading for Wallace also gives them the opportunity to win him over and the first crack at negotiating a long term contract.

Not saying that giving up the #6 pick wasn't overpaying. Just saying that I can see a certain logic/justification for the move.

I really hope he goes elsewhere, the Nets if they dont resign Wallace, made a terrible terrible trade.

I wish we could sign Wallace on the cheap... I've loved his game for a long long time. We could run a nasty smallball lineup with Rondo, bRADLEY, pierce, wallace, and garnett.

Well I imagine they retained his Bird Rights so they can work out a new, multi-year deal with him.  Also allows them to sign-and-trade him.

But yah...Billy King is terrible.

They bet that Dwight wouldn't re-up with Orlando for one more year.  They probably figured a Deron Williams-Wallace two some would be attractive to Howard.  Not sure why...but again this is Billy King we are talking about.

Billy King does not operate on logic.  Under no circumstances do you trade a lottery pick for Gerald Wallace.  I don't care if you are trying to lure the Ghost of Wilt Chamberlain, you don't do it.

I disagree with the other post claiming they could have simply signed Wallace as a free agent.  I am not sure how much cap space the Nets have, but would they have had enough for Deron/Dwight/Wallace and the rest of their team?  My guess is they traded for him so they can extend him over the cap if need be.
