I know a lot of you guys actually believe the lottery is fixed despite the fact that it would be almost impossible and every team has a representative in the room when it happens:
http://nba-point-forward.si.com/2012/05/30/nba-draft-lottery/Seems the people who think the lotto is rigged are the same people who believe that Stern fixes playoff games, favors superstars (like LeBron) and has an army of evil ref minions who pre-decide the results. As I explained before, if you're willing to believe these conspiracy theories, you by extension must believe that Stern attempted to fix the 2007 lotto for us (giving it to Boston would have been the most beneficial to the league), but when that didn't work out he forced Minny to trade us KG... then "fixed" the playoffs for a Lakers/Celtics Finals... then "fixed" it so we could win our first title in 20+ years.
Thing I don't get is... With all these awesome boneheaded conspiracy theories... where you live in this fantasy world where the NBA operates like the WWE, our 2008 title is tarnished, all the results are fixed and the superstars are fabrications... Why do you even bother continuing to watch? If it's happening it didn't just start happening... it's been happening since the mid 80s. Either accept that you're watching theater (and thank Lord Stern for scripting our championship) or Go Away.
Personally I think all of this bull**** just devalues the league, tarnishes the perception of it from the general public, and creates a completely unnecessary negative view of the best professional sports league in the world. The story right now should be about two otherworldly talents, two supernova teams clashing on the NBA's biggest stage. Kevin Durant vs LeBron James... two of the greatest talents the world of basketball has ever seen. Both unquestionably earned their trips to the Finals fair and square. That's the story right now... not some garbage conspiracy theory about a "fixed" league. I don't blame Stern for reacting EXTREMELY negatively... Tim Donaghy wasn't Stern's fault. There is only so much they could have done to prevent that situation... but they have been fighting that perception of a "fixed" league ever since. I get Stern's point here completely. Rome asking the question just continues an unnecessary discussion that the general public is too stupid to sift through.
