D Williams, Westbrook, or D Rose. You can't replace Rondo's assists, so we'll need scoring.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

I think it is entirely feasible for Danny to work his magic and trade Rondo and whatever else for Dwight Howard and then sign Deron Williams.....think of a lineup of:

PG: Williams SG:Bradley/Ray SF: Pierce/Jeff Green PF: KG/Bass C: Howard/Steamer

That is an amazing lineup. I would have to think Pierce and KG would both wanna stick around and play with that caliber of a team.

The first shoe to fall would have to be Orlando coveting Rondo (or settling for Rondo if the options are limited).

I think you have to alert both Williams and Howard through back channels that this is the ultimate plan. That way they both know whats going and and would be open to Boston. They both want to play with each other.

This would rival the Ray Allen and KG deals of 2008. Its been done once, it can be done again, the stars (pun intended) just need to align. We are bound for some good luck after all the injuries we have sustained over the course of 4 years.

There isn't a player in the NBA I'm not trading for both Howard and Williams.

KG: "Dude.... What is up with yo shorts?!"

I still don't get why you would swap Rondo for any other point guard. I'd have thought more people would agree with me. You move Rondo for another point guard it'd mostly be a lateral move breaking our continuity.

Rondo + pick/Bass/other... for Rudy Gay + Conley + Zach Randolph/Speights would be reasonable. Not Rondo for another point guard...jeez.

Lebron
Howard
Durrant
Paul

Those are the single players I would trade Rondo (plus extra) for right now.

I have no interest in trading Rondo.  He's my favorite player to watch on the Celtics.

Considering all of your posts claiming that his contributions aren't that valuable to the Celts and that his success stems more from the players he's lucky enough to be on the court with than his own abilities, one wonders what you'd say about him if he *wasn't* your favorite player to watch.

#1 - A Superstar -  Rondo isn't a superstar.  LeBron, Durant and Dwight Howard are superstars.  They can't win titles on their own, but simply having them with the right pieces makes you a contender.  You'd have to have a perfect storm of talent around Rondo to win a title... with a true superstar, it's a heck of a lot easier.

We went to game 7 of the finals in 2010 and were probably a healthy shooting guard (or small forward) away from being in the finals this year. Nobody would ever claim that either team had anything resembling a perfect storm of talent around Rondo. For those keeping score at home, that's comparable to the success the Cavs had in 7 years with LeBron or the Magic had in 7 years with Howard, more success than Minny had with KG and clearly more success than CP3 has had in his 6 or so healthy seasons. It sure doesn't *seem* to be a heck of a lot easier to build a contender around those "true superstars".

No, no, no. You trade Rondo to get better (Dwight Howard, Chris Paul) not to get worse (Kevin Martin, Monta Ellis). I would have taken this trade even before the playoffs started (and he torched the league post-All-Star break too). Now? Forget about it. As Bill Simmons always says, Danny Ainge only had Rondo on the block because Chris Paul was available. And that's really all you can say about it.

I would take a Rondo for Gordon trade with us swapping the 10th for the 21st, if we can sign Deron as well. If no Deron then no way. New Orleans would be crazy not to. They get a young proven star PG which arnt easy to find. We get arguablly a better PG in Deron. Eric Gordon an the 10th pick.

I don't see Rondo getting traded.  The whole Dwight Howard-Deron Williams scenario seems awfully far fetched to me.

I don't understand that dysfunctional situation down in Orlando, but I don't get them looking to trade Dwight again this off-season or season.  Why would they go through the embarrassment they went through last season to finally settle on another year with Dwight, then fire the coach and the GM to appease him, just to turn around and trade him for Rajon Rondo as soon as the trade season opens?  That doesn't make sense to me.

Orlando should keep him and sign Deron Williams as a free agent.  Then the two buddies can get together like they've always wanted, and we can end the ridiculous Dwight Howard drama, once and for all.

Rondo is at least Paul's equal at this point, and will absolutely be better going forward.

I would not trade Rondo for anyone, for a number of reasons.

Unless of course OKC wanted to trade us Durant AND Harden.  ;D

That's not nonsense.  Chris Paul has a lot more negative wear on his body, specifically his knees, than Rajon Rondo.  He's played very well since recovering from knee surgery, but I think it's reasonable to surmise that his body and his game will deteriorate much more rapidly than Rajon Rondo's.

As far as their games right now, I don't see much separating them.  You can say that's blind homerism talking, but you seem to be the one stubbornly grasping onto some last-year-or-the-year-before-that common knowledge that Chris Paul is hands down the best PG in the league.

If you listen to what objective basketball observers (and, no, I don't count myself in that group) have to say about Rajon Rondo currently, I think you'll find that most of them have a lot higher opinion of Rondo's game than you do.  Many non-Celtics fans--including Magic Johnson--are calling Rajon the best PG in the game right now.
