Why wouldn't a team like Charlotte claim him off of amnesty? They have the unused cap space, and then they can deal him to a needy contender at the deadline. They'd probably be able to score a late 1st out of the deal if a contender thought they were one big man away from a potential title.

Regardless, that would be a no brainer for Charlotte. That team is in sore need of veteran, character players. Former Dukie as well.

Brand would only get in the way.

How much would they be will to pay Smith?Plus the salary gymnastics would be complicated wouldn't they?
Can you use cap exceptions when bidding on amnesties? If so, we could bid the bi-annual and see what happens. He's only on a 1-year deal, and most contenders are short on cap/exceptions room except for Dallas (not that they're a contender anyway. God they screwed the pooch.) I guess Indiana has room assuming they let Hibbert walk.
