Look, I know that this is a business, but this scenario really gives Bass the shaft.  He's talking about opting in because he likes Boston and wants to play here.  If he wanted to play elsewhere, he could opt out - and make more money over more years by doing so.  If he opted in only to be traded immediately afterward, that would be a big slap in the face to him.

Can't say I'm a fan of this one.

I agree.  I imagine some conversation regarding trade possibilities is going to happen before Bass opts in.  If Danny is candid and tells Bass that he could be traded, I think Bass opts out.  If Danny lies, tells him he won't be traded but still trades him, I think that word gets out and really hurts Danny's ability to have good-faith negotiations with players/agents going forward.

Listen, this trade is so good on so many levels for Boston.

1-Josh Smith is an expiring, atlanta gets 2 firsts, #13 and #23

2-Paul Pierce is only guaranteed between 4-5 million in 2013/14, he could get amnestied if he decides to retire and get all his money, not giving Boston a cap hit of 4-5 million.

3-Howard is unrestricted in 2013, and we have Rondo and Josh Smith, if Howard doesn't sign an extension and/or traded we have a very good shot at signing him.

4- incase Howard doesn't come here, we have Pierce,KG (who return for one year) and Josh Smith all expiring leaving us with close to 40 million in cap space.

5-a team with rondo, bradley, pierce,kg,josh smith, green is a championship contender right away.

win-win situation for Boston.
