  • Let's Go Celtics!

Josh Smith wants to be a Celtic so he can take the jump shots that Garnett currently takes.
1 problem, j smove is a horrible shooter, would rather have illyasova for half the salary

Ersan has said its all business to him and he will go where he's offered the most money.

I'd love to get Josh Smith - he's shown a lot of interest in playing in Boston with his buddy Rondo. Especially if KG comes back and plays Center - he and Smith would be a terrific defensive tandem in the front court. Pair that with the disruptive backcourt of Rondo and Bradley... That'd be a heck of a defensive team.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I think in a year or so this teams gonna revolve around Rondo, Bradley, Green, and Josh Smith with other pieces that I have no way of guessing at the moment
That would be a very mediocre team.

I can't really even think of ideas for our future until I have a good idea of what KG will want.  KG is the MVP of this team. Without him we would have been out in the 1st round (or probably missed the playoffs entirely, actually).  He carries our defense, is the leader of this team, the heart of this team and transformed into an extremely consistent 20 and 10 guy once he switched the center.  Big men are key to winning championships and Garnett's resurgence pretty much turned us into a contender by himself.  When you have a hall of fame big man playing like a hall of fame big man... it makes a huge difference.  So... I could see us paying him 10+ mil a year for the next two seasons.  It would certainly be warranted.  It's really KG's call.  Ask him how much money he wants.  If he wants to take a ridiculous paycut... that's his decision, but he's easily the 2nd best unrestricted free agent available (behind Deron Williams) and we'd be dumb to let him walk.

If he decides to take a ridiculous pay cut (vet min)... then you can start talking about utilizing our mythical "cap space" to swallow a Josh Smith type contract.  If Atlanta thinks they will lose him for nothing anyways... they might as well take 1 or 2 of our 1st rounders to get him off the books this offseason.  Smith is a fantastic player and playing with an elite distributor like Rondo would be great for both of them.

Future of team , immediate future

C - ?        Backup - Stiesma
PF - KG      Backup - Hollins, JJJ
SF - Pierce  Backup - Pitrus, ?
SG - Bradley Backup - Allen, Moore
SG - Rondo   Backup - Dooling

For me it would be really nice to draft Zeller and Barton.

Zeller like a pj brown, Jeff Foster would be really good on the break, and is just a very clever player + legit 7 footer.

The thing i like about Barton is his athleticism, shooting and quickness to keep up with rondo on the fast break. Sort of the anti paul pierce.

Potential lineup i love to see next year

C  - Zeller  Backup - Stiesma
PF - KG      Backup - Hollins, JJJ
SF - Pierce  Backup - Pitrus, Barton
SG - Bradley Backup - Allen, Moore
SG - Rondo   Backup - Dooling

Not botching this draft is key to the reloading of this team.

Don't make the wild, unexpected move Danny.

Could KG, at his age, spend a whole year banging down low as a center, assuming he doesn't retire?
2014 Pick 2 OKC Thunder
PG: Russell Westbrook
SG: Jeremy Lamb / Jodie Meeks
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Taj Gibson / Derrick Favors
C: Greg Monroe / Brandan Wright
7.19, 8.19, 9.19, 10.19

Short term future plans, praying KG doesnt retire, Bass opts in and Green comes back healthy. If that happens i'd try to contend as long as we have KG and sign a 6th man who fits Rondo now and in the future.

Next season:

PG: Rajon Rondo / Keyon Dooling / E’Twaun Moore
SG: Avery Bradley / O.J. Mayo / 2nd round pick
SF: Paul Pierce / Jeff Green / Mickael Pietrus
PF: Brandon Bass / JaJuan Johnson / 1st round rookie (#22)
C: Kevin Garnett / Greg Stiemsma / 1st round rookie (#21)

The numbers (estimated salary cap around $58-60 M):

Dooling – 1 year, veteran minimum
Mayo – 4 years, $32-35 M
Green – 1 year, $6-7 M + team option (1 year, $8 M)
Pietrus – 1 year, veteran minimum
Bass – opts in, 1 year, $4.5 M
KG – 1 year, $10 M + player option (1 year, $8 M)

Can we contend with the same core plus some bench quality and some young (hopefully) roleplayers?

2013-2014:

Sing a free agent big man: Josh Smith, Serge Ibaka, David West, Paul Milsap and Al Jefferson

after all the stupid decisions/shots I watched Smith take in the first round, I really want nothing to do with him.

He's a nice player, but I dont think hes a winner at all

Really? He had maybe 2 bad shots a game at most.  That is arguably a little more than Rondo averages.  He was dominant in that series and single handedly carried a completely worthless supporting cast against us.

He is a dominant defensive player, dominant rebounder, and has the athleticism and range to hit open shots from Rondo or throw down a dunk in transition in Rondo.  He is the closet thing to a perfect complimentary piece with Rondo we can hope for beyond drafting a Kevin Garnett or Ray Allen in the next 3 years.

He also would fit very well with Kevin and this offense as a whole.  Like I said, very good defensive player, can switch into the 3 or 4 and even guard the 5.  He gives us that rebounding bigman that we desperately need, and he can hold down the defense when KG is on the bench.  And I'm beating a dead horse, but he is a knock down shooter when left open, and Rondo is a million times better than Hinrich/Teague at setting teammates up.

Most of all, Josh Smith WANTS to be a Celtic.  I saw an interview with him after their season ended against us and he was practically begging Ainge to sign him.

maybe 2 bad shots??  what, were you conveniently in the can taking a dump every time he pulled up for a three?

He shoots like 20% from 3 point land yet he continues to shoot them every game.  I cant tell if hes stupid or if hes trying to build his mother a new house.  To make matters worse, whenever a coach tells him to stop he asks to be traded.

Mark my words, when this guy loses his athleticism, you'll be begging for Antoine to come out of retirement.

That would be a very mediocre team.

Unless the Celtics sign Dwight to anchor the defense that team is probably no better than a perennial sixth seed

that team would be unstoppable....

....until everybody realizes that if they foul us every possession, we'll only score 50 points a game

blah...josh smith is a black hole on offense that can't shoot and play the required defense we need
