I don't like the Gortat pick. I like him a lot, but he's got no real purpose on your team. I'd look to trade him near the end of the line, because we're getting close to the end of the line on bigs - but I'm not so sure how much you'll be able to get in return.

I like him enough, he is a guy that is used to coming off the bench backing up the teams best player.  He also will be able to make up for some of the defensive lapses that Boozer will eventually have
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

C: Duncan/Gortat/Okafor
PF: B. Wallace/ Boozer/ Okafor
SF:  Artest/Detlef Schrempf
SG: Roy/Hamilton
PG: Parker/ Curry

Trying to decide who should start between ben wallace of Boozer.  And StartOrien, I know you like Rip in the starting lineup and Roy off the bench as 6th man, but when I think about it, The Spurs are most effective with Parker, Manu and Duncan on the floor and I think I have I version of that here with Parker, Roy and Duncan

I might start Gortat at C and Duncan at PF.   Duncan was at his best when he had another 7 footer out there with him.

I would start Roy because he has a better outside shot needed to stretch the floor.

Is Curry a good enough of a passer to hit Rip at the right spot and the right time coming off the screens?

I would definitely use Wallace off the bench with Rip.  We know he can set the right screens for Rip.

Eddie Jones for Glen Rice. Who says no?
Glen Rice is nowhere near as valuable as Eddie Jones. Eddie is a two way player.
true, but Rice's one way is significantly better than Jones on that end of the floor.

I'd say he's "better"....not "significantly" better. ;D.

To my memory, Glen was a great shooter, but Eddie could create for himself, defend at an excellent level, and shoot well from deep.

Rice was a much better shot creator than Jones

I still really think Rip should start, BUT I do think Curry is more than capable of hitting Rip when he needs it. I think Curry is a pretty underrated passer.

Yeah.  I really was surprised to see argument of any kind regarding the offensive skills of Glen Rice vs. Eddie Jones.  Similarly, on the defensive end Eddie Jones is significantly better than Glen Rice.

And seriously, Glen Rice hit 47% from three shooting 5.6 threes a game.  That is insane.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Wow..not to my memory.

Glen was an offensive machine, but Eddie J was no slouch, either.

Right, but remember this is an all-time situation, not an every-day situation.

Nash
Finley/Battier
Pippen/Rice
Elton Brand/J Smith
J O'Neal/M Okur/Big Z

1 pick in the 12th, 2 picks in the 13th left.

Obviously you need a defensive PG, I have one in mind that I would really like to see on your team if you want my advice.

I don't think a defensive PG is a priority. A playmaking PG who can maintain your style of play while Nash rests should be the priority.

Especially with a bench that will be much more effective with a creative playmaking PG rather than a setup guard. Shane Battier, Memo Okur, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Josh Smith. All of these guys will play better alongside a playmaking PG. The only real bench player who doesn't need a playmaking PG and can create his own at a reasonable level is Glen Rice.

It's not like you are going to bench Steve Nash for this defensive guard. Nash is the second best player on the team. He needs to be out on the court.

Need a playmaking PG as your primary backup PG.

You can add a defensive PG as a situational sub. A third string player. Or you could go bigger with a third string defensive wing with great defensive range who can guard 1-3. Either option can work well.

Fine, then I'll take the defensive pg i have in mind!  ;D

Well I hope I split the difference.

I took a sixth man of the year, defensive stalwart, great lockerroom guy who can still pass and score at least as well as your average pg.

I like that team a lot, obviously very similar to the actual current Lakers team.

I wish the guy next to O'Neal was more skilled, and had a better jumper, but what are ya gonna do.

McGrady is my favorite player from our timespan, I can't argue with him.

I don't really remember much about Terry Porter other than what I've read.

I worry about the killer instinct factor a little here. Who has it? Shaq needed Kobe and Wade to drive him before, who is going to push him now, night in, night out, against tougher competition?

On your bench, i think Harden, Ibaka should do great, especially with the skill around them.

Very athletic squad, lots of versatility.

(1) Killer instinct -- Yeah, I felt the same. I think it's because of McGrady. That is why I went with James Harden in the fifth round. A third shot-creator to support T-Mac on the perimeter and to give more balance to Shaq's interior dominance. Then Porter as an additional option.

I liked Harden's ability to make big plays in pressure situations. He has shown he can function alongside two high usage guys in Westbrook and Durant. Make plays for himself and others. Very clutch. Terrific shooter when McGrady or Shaq are doubled.

(2) Terry Porter was very similar to Chauncey Billups. Not quite as good. Chauncey had a little more explosive athleticism to him which gives him the nod in my book. Same style of point guard. Scoring PG who can run an offense well (floor general more so than a playmaker). Very efficient, great shooter, very good scorer. Plus defender/rebounder. Big strong physical PG with good quickness. Leadership. Takes and makes big shots.

(3) With the high quality of some of these defensive teams (such as Big Ben and Tim Duncan), I felt going with Shawn Kemp alongside Shaq gave me a stronger foundation to build off to compete with them. I love Kemp's defense and rebounding. I wanted that extra interior strength. I decided to go with that as my priority over a more skilled PF with a strong jumper.

Kemp plays well in big games too. Terrific against Rodman in the Finals in 1996 and against Karl Malone in the Conference Finals before that. A big game player. I thought a lot of the big name PFs didn't like playing against Kemp when he was at his peak. Tough physical player.

I really enjoyed the idea of that physical power with Shawn Kemp and Shaquille O'Neal.

When I need more of a skilled PF, Danny Manning will get the nod. He'll see playing time at both forward spots. At PF when I want more shooting, passing and quickness. At SF when I want to go big with a power three.
