Harrison Barnes is NOT going to disappear.... lets just put that to rest right now lol. The dude will be dropping at least 15ppg at the LEAST for his career. HOWEVER, I in no way would trade Paul for him, I understand its a business but PP deserves to finish his career with Boston. And to top it off if we want to stay in the win now mode again next year like everyone is starting to suggest we NEED paul.

Sounds good to me, but I'll be honest, I am not as familiar with a lot of the players as I haven't had the time to follow NCAA the past few years (fatherhood).
Celtics fan for life.

Im hoping for Fab Melo and Royce White...Knuckleheads or not, the big men are worth the risk to me.

I'm with you with Melo.....just hope he is there when we pick...his workouts will make his stock rise.

He has a stroke with some pretty good form for a guy who is only supposed to contribute on the defensive end initialy. Check out this workout video from last week and the article on him in DraftExpress.

William Bedford, Keith Lee, Chris Washburn, Roy Tarpley, Steve Stipanovich, Mel Turpin, Kwame Brown, Eddie Curry, Hasheem Thabeet, Eric Montross, Acie Earl, Patrick O'Bryant.  Those are just the easy pickings off the top of my head of big man busts from the first round.

Needless to say, I find your philosophy on big men dramatically flawed.

White looked like the real McCoy against UK.   Melo wilted in almost every match up with elite talent this year.  Drummond owned him even with the zone's help.

NCAA players listed at 6'10" and above that could possibly be available for the Celtics in the 2nd round:

Guys like Kenneth Faried (6'8") and Lavoy Allen (6'9") make me think you should be willing to look at guys who aren't quite 6'10".

Clearly, those of you praying for a rebuild are going to be disappointed as we'll not be blowing anything up this summer.

So, the draft is really a pretty simple proposition, IMHO: I want a big who can board, and 6-7 would be a good starting point, and then if we have another pick left that doesn't need to be used to get me a Paul Silas clone, I'll take a perimeter shooter.

Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Ford currently predicts the Cs picking Harkless and Nicholson. This would be almost an ideal situation.
Getting Andrew Nicholson will be terrific!!!
I don't like Harkless because of his average shooting!
I would rather package that pick plus Paul Pierce and get Harrison Barnes!!
Dont know if it's doable but if it is, and Danny somehow pull it off it would be the perfect bridge to rebuilt while remaining competitive!
Completely disagree. Barnes is the most overrated player in this draft, one I'm betting disappears entirely in the association.

Trading Pierce to move up to get him would be an abomination worthy of terminating Ainge immediately.

agreed. harrison barnes is overated. if danny trades paul to get HIM i will be distraught and inconsolable. the kid is a starter in the nba, he may make an all star game or two like antoine walker did, but he's not worth paul pierce, he may average 15 - 20 points per game at least in the nba, but his defense wont be too good, ala carmelo anthony - and thus the net result of his time on court wont be too good. barnes certainly isnt someone who can shoulder a franchise.

he is as offensively polished as you can get out of college. however his athleticism isnt superb, and as a result has come close (but not completely) to his peak. he wont improve in leaps and bounds.

harkless on the other hand, i would be much more comfortable with. his ceiling is much higher. he has crazy athleticism, can rebound well in college, which usually translates well to being a good rebounder in the nba, has wicked d... and if he can't shoot too well, it can be taught, unlike the athleticism he has to work with.

Should we get someone else instead of Harkless?

Please no to trading Pierce at all but especially for Barnes.

If this draft wasn't filled with so many players who were simultaneously risky and lacked very high ceilings, Barnes' significant limitations might have him dropping hard. As is, the feeling that there's a good chance you can count on maybe 15 points a game with him as well as professionalism from day one may be keeping him in the middle lottery, if that's the case.  I still  wouldn't be surprised if on draft day, GM after GM just decide to go for the higher ceiling player instead and Barnes drops farther than expected.  It happened with Pierce, although there was a bunch of different reasons why he dropped and it also happened with Butler.  Barnes was a significantly worse player than both of them in college too.

Another thing, I don't buy the mentoring thing much but if the Celtics trade up for Barnes, it'd be in their best interests to have Pierce around to tutor Barnes.  There's not much Pierce can do to improve Barnes first step Barnes is going to need all the tricks Pierce can teach him.
