There was a transition play in the fourth quarter where Rondo had the ball on the wing, and he’s barking to Paul Pierce to keep running and continue to the rim, seemingly p---ed off that he had to tell him to get to the rack. As Pierce cuts, Rondo slings the ball underhanded to Pierce, who easily lays it in for two. What made the play so great was the anger on Rondo’s face as he barked at Pierce and made the pass -- and the disdainful way he slung the ball perfectly into PP's hands. It was like he was saying: “Here you go Paul -- have your f-ing layup....That's right. You’re welcome.”

That was incredible. Here is the clip: http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2012/6/3/3061881/video-rajon-rondo-orders-paul-pierce-to-cut-gives-him-a-layup#ooid=VtbW54NDpnLpRRx6f-bSRnfF34Kt34gA

Yes, I specifically remember this play.  This play is exactly the reason Rondo is the absolute best play maker in the game right now.

Pierce was coming down the wing with every intention of receiving the pass and taking a mid-range jumpshot.  Rondo knew better though.  He saw Pierce had his man beat, and would have an easy layup.  Lesser player not only wouldn't have the balls to tell Pierce (especially in the fashion Rondo) did.  Most other players wouldn't have even saw the opportunity.

Yeah Rondo's in charge. His vision, play making is epic.

And he is living and dying with each game / play. Hopefully his frustration doesn't boil over too high.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Rondo is the Finals MVP of the Finals.

Similar to the play with Ray in, gosh, I am blanking, the Atlanta series where Ray curled for a 17-footer, expecting to receive the pass, Rondo held onto the ball and similarly urged him to cut as he had a step on his man, Ray did just that and got an easy layup. His control of the game is remarkable.

The thing is that's a pass he makes on a regular basis. Those guys that don't see him play a lot marvel over plays like that and talk about him being the only player in the league that could make that pass.  A lot of the people who see him play all the time think it's a simple pass that any good point guard could make because he makes it look so pedestrian.

He loves to work the spin so the ball pops right up into the cutters hands.

I know a lot of players can do that, its just I like bounce passes between players... :P

I mean, the other play was also good because it shows his leadership and basketball IQ...I'm a sucker for fancy plays lol

You know a lot of players that can make a low skip pass past a 1st team nba defender to a spot on the floor to hit his teammate cutting inbetween two defenders in full transition huh?

I know about 2 or 3 besides rondo, and they are guys like parker, nash, and paul.

I think the only other PG with the audacity to make that pass right there is Ricky Rubio...

I don't think that is a particular hard pass for NBA players who are good passes so long as they know the man is coming. That is the whole point of bounce passes. They are out of reach of defenders.

Yes he is defiintely playing with an edge that I haven't seen from him at least outwardly.

It shows through in his interviews too. All playoff interviews with Rondo have been must listen. He is oozing passion and confidence.
