Yes this is true. I'd say about 98% true. But, it simply highlights the disgraceful and disgusting nature of the NBA officiating under Stern.
The refs throwing a few calls the Celtics' way in Game 3 equates to the refs throwing a few calls their way at the end of Game 1.
The foul discrepancy in Game 1 would have been very telling if the refs didn't make a committed effort to sending the Celtics to the free throw line with 6 minutes left in a 17 point game. Once the game was completely in Miami's hands, the refs went about making things seem fair "on paper." The final free throw tally was: Miami=23, Boston=21, but 6 of Boston's free throws came in basic garbage time.
The free throw discrepancy in Game would have looked like this: Miami=23, Boston=15. 15 free throw attempts in a physical playoff series?!?!?! The refs had to make that look better, and when the game was in Miami's hands, they did.
And, just like in Game 2, James and Wade both ended Game 1 with TWO FOULS... with their second fouls coming in garbage time while up by 15+ points.
We've all discussed the ridiculous, vomit-inducing officiating of Game 2.
Now, in the most duplicitous manner, the refs will probably throw calls the Celts' way in Game 3, and maybe even in Game 4, but here's the thing: When a team is up 2-0 in a playoff series, they win that series 94% of the time. The league, and refs, know this. Being up 2-0 in the playoffs is akin to being up 17 with 6 minutes left in a game. It equates to garbage time.
The Celts may get calls in Games 3 and 4, and they may win Games 3 and 4, but the league and refs will never allow them to win Game 5 in Miami... and that is all that needs to be known about what's going on in this series.
It has been decreed by Stern-in-high: The Heat shall make the Finals.
