Trade:

Spurs Trade: 5(13) and 8 (4)

Hawks Trade: 5(6) and 10 (11)

Spurs select Jermaine O'Neal, after much hand-wringing.

JO is a good pick.  I like him better as a PF than a center, though.
I agree and with Brand you can push either to C but like them both as PF better.

The Maverick's will elect to go with their first big off the bench rather than fill the starting wing spot and select PF/C - Chris Bosh.  I haven't yet decided on a season yet, choice is between last year in Toronto (the 24/11 season) or first year in Miami.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
There were 2 guys who I saw as fundamentally the same that I had to choose between.

I've wanted 3 things out of all my starters in this draft:

1) Was he the best, or among the top 5 at his position during the season I'm selecting him?

2) Was he healthy all season and into the playoffs? Did he finish strong?

3) Does he fit with the rest of my guys?

JO has all 3, and he's the bigger name than the other guy. Decided I had to get up there and get em.

Did you have a wing in mind like perhaps Bowen (or Eddie Jones or Harden if you move Pierce to the 3), or perhaps even someone taken last round, or were you planning on Bosh all along?

I agree.  I had him pegged as a 6th or 7th rounder though because we saw how he regressed since then when he has been surrounded by more talent.

I had Rice at the top of my list entering today.  Bosh was #2, the next three after Bosh were all wings (and are all still there), and then I had JO and a couple of more bigs.

I had Bosh a bit higher than JO though felt they were pretty close, I just think Bosh is a better fit with Malone and Bynum than O'Neal would have been and I expect them to play together.

His most efficient overall season was his last year in Toronto.  Highest TS%, highest eFG%, best RB%, best PER, and in addition had his career highs in points, rebounds, etc.  So not only was he shooting more he was doing so at a more efficient pace.

He had a pretty solid year in 06-07, but he was pretty bad in the playoffs that year, and felt that might be used against him more than not making the playoffs.

He only regressed in the same way that Pierce, Allen, and Garnett regressed and James and Wade regressed when they came together.

Not from me, Bosh was mentally checked out that year.

The question I have your then is are you using him at C then?

Because that is what he essentially was doing that year, and his rebounding spike is largely due to his nominal C partner as well.
