Rondo has not become a complete headcase, and hasn't been dogging it all year.

Mercurial is the very best word I think one could use to describe the man. That's who he is, as much as he's the guy who will pass everyone but magic Johnson on the mark for triple doubles during the playoffs.

Perfectly stated.
No, he just dogs it when he chooses. At times he is truly a star out there that no one can stop, and at other times he chooses to play like a backup pg. I don't think that its an unfair comment to say that he dogged it in 3/4 quarters tonight. The only one who can stop Rondo however is Rondo and oddly enough "bad Rondo" shows up way too often when it matters. That was actually a winnable game, and his poor timing of not showing up put that completely out of the question.

chris paul is sitting at home. ;D

THE CLIPPERS are sitting at home
Celtics >>>> Clippers

Except the Clippers had the better record in the tougher conference and a ton of talent around chris paul, and he underperformed and lost in the second round...which is good for him.
He quit., and
Rondo is still "ruining" our season... haha

These "Rondo" threads lose all their credibility when they start turning into Rondo is better than CP3 or even comparable to him.  There isn't a single basketball GM in the world that would take Rondo over CP3, and it's not even close.  But only here on the CBlog forums do you have people who actually believe Rondo is on par or even better.  CP3 = solid top 5/10 player in the NBA; Rondo = a very good NBA player (and nothing more).  Pierce outdueled Lebron in 2008; should we say Pierce is better?

Well I can agree that Rondo is ruining it for this Celtic fan. One of these days I will seriously hurt myself rolling my eyes in some of these Rondo threads. Honestly Rondo has his flaws which we've all discussed ad nauseum and can recite in our sleep. Knowing this I don't know why we want him to be some cray Russell/Cousy/Bird hybrid and get annoyed when he isn't.

Yesterday we lost for a lot of reasons and I wouldn't put Rondo on the top of that list. Our depth is so thin right now. And a couple of guys in the rotation need surgery. We've needed Herculean efforts from one of Pierce, KG or Rondo for most of our postseason wins. In this series, we'll need at least two maybe even all three of them to have big games to win. We have very little margin for error and yesterday too many things went wrong.

TP. Rondo can't be everything everyone wants him to be. He is what he is: a moody, inconsistent, high IQ, streaky player who, despite his inconsistency, still brings a lot more to the table than he takes away.

I think if you watched any player with the preconceived notion that they're inconsistent and look for inconsistent play, you'll find it. LeBron scored 13 in the first and the Heat pulled ahead, he scored 4 in the second and the Celts came back. Wade scored 6 in the first half and 16 in the second half. When Rondo does that people call it wild inconsistency. When the rest of the stars in the league do it it generally goes unnoticed.

That is a great point.

No player's stats are evenly distributed throughout their playing time. A single game is not a large enough sample for an even distribution, so the data will be clumpy during a single game. In fact, it is typically pretty clumpy over a few games, with a much high variance in stats per game than from season to season.

If people already have a narrative in mind for a player, confirmation bias comes into play where you seek out confirming data or interpret data as confirming a preconception.

I think Rondo's demeanor though is demonstrably unimpressive at at many points. He reminds me of Beltran, who looks like he is coasting even when he isn't. Rondo may also be a less reliable scorer than typical starters due to being a poor shooter.

Wow!! I'm impressed that you know the thought process of every single GM in the world.

CP3's a solid 5-10 player, Rondo's a solid 10-20 player who frequently plays like a 5-10 player in the postseason. Pierce put up 19/5/4 in 2008, LeBron put up 27/6/8. If you're going to call that Pierce outdueling James you shouldn't really be criticizing the pro-Rondo posts.

A 6' player averaging 15, 12, and 7 is certainly the problem with this team... ::)

The only players on this team who consistently show up are KG and RR.

We'll do better this game, if PP, Bass , Allen , Pietrus all working diligently on a fabulous brick ranch down in Miami can actually hit a bucket.

Not sure if its the cHeat defense or what but Rondo doesn't look like he has game quite yet...he maybe trying TOO hard and thinking TOO much to make complex plays.

Ah, the old Rajon Rondo "I'm getting bored... how can I make this next pass seventy thousand times harder than it needs to be?"

That said, there are two facts that need to be addressed here.

A) Rondo is not better than Chris Paul

B) Rondo is not ruining it the Celtics.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.
