Good Rondo: Pushes tempo, controls offense, plays defense, does everything from rebounding to scoring

Good Rondo with teammates struggling: Offense stagnates despite good looks, overpasses, won't score, will scrap for extra possessions

Bad Rondo: Does not push tempo, subpar defense, turns it over

Great Rondo: Scores when needed on top of being good Rondo

We saw every incarnation of Rondo and more tonight. Hope we see more of great Rondo but he's coming together.

Excellent analysis.

Rondo can be brilliant. He most assuredly hasn't been brilliant throughout these playoffs, as some want to speciously claim, but he was brilliant in the last four minutes of the game tonight.

Whenever he realizes the necessity to be brilliant, he will be. It hasn't happened yet, and it's going to have to happen now to survive the next series.

Rondo helps us win the most important game of the season so far.

CB: "How can we blame Rondo for something?"

Ugh. You know, that's one of my biggest pet peeves:

People that say "Celticsblog" when they are actually referring to just one, two, or three members.

I mean really, I take offense.

Pretty sure it's against the rules to call specific people out. Otherwise I would absolute love to.

Perspective. Some have it. Some don't.

As long as he has a few bad possessions in his 40 or so minutes he'll keep his detractors happy, especially the ones who speciously assume that the other stars play lights out every minute of every game.

I don't see any blame in this thread.

Just truth and fact.

Rondo won this game for the Celtics, no doubting that. But, we are still allowed to talk about the flaws and frustrating aspects of his game.

You don't need to defend Rondo's honor every time someone mentions his name. This is a CelticsBlog forum, where us Celtics fans can discuss the Celtics and their players. If you don't like a thread, it is probably best to just ignore said thread. You don't need to "call people out" everything time they say something about Rondo's flaws.

I'm not blaming Rondo for anything. People say he's inconsistent but he's not, his teammates are. Good Rondo is as good as his teammates allow him to be.

As for the Rondo who turns it over, plays bad D, he's playing 40 a night. It's tough to watch but I do realize he's only human.

But tonight, and at other times this year, Rondo has been not just good, but great Rondo.

The best thing to do would be to get him more consistent teammates, ideally one who can score inside (I've been saying since the big three started aging but I was shut down with "they're future hall of famers, you can't ask for better teammates"). Look at what Rondo did with zombie-Shaq.

Unfortunately that's not an option right now. We need great Rondo at times now who can rip apart the other team regardless, not good Rondo who is limited by how well these guys are shooting. We need more of great Rondo in this final stretch.

Not the most sustainable game plan but it is what it is.

Loved his first quarter, particularly the beginning minutes of the game. Hated his 2nd through 4th quarter, until Pierce came out just because he was hitting shots.

That said, Rondo came with the right mindset from the beginning, and I give a ton of credit to the Philly defense. It was very impressive. The problem through much of it was how they were packing the middle. Through much of the game, all 5 defenders were playing below the free-throw line and not paying much attention to Rondo, which enabled Philly to double, and at time triple team Pierce and KG.

It's really of no coincidence that when Rondo was pushing the ball, he was finding KG in the paint for good looks, and the ball movement was phenomenal, then that went away for whatever reason.

Rondo  steping up and taking the shots and nailing freethrows , like the Captain was one of Rondos most impressive moments in his career.

Rondo didn't shy away from the moment like  LBJ does .  He knew somebody had to make a shot .

This was a maybe a "Growth " moment in Rondos career.  He responded to the moment...as KG or PP would have.

SOmetimes he plays better when he includes himself in the offense .and looks for his game as well as everybody elses.

He can take control in his own way .
