I'm pretty optimistic about tonight's game but crazier things have happened.

This could very well be the last game for some of our players....most notably, Paul Pierce.

Whether it's trade, retirement, or other....we may never see Pierce in a Celtic uniform again and it's going to be pretty sad.

We as Celtics fans all know about his heart and never-die attitude. He's the "professional scorer" and a pretty good defender especially in his younger years.

Pierce may not have been as athletic as his star peers but when in his prime, Paul could throw it down with the best of them and make those ridiculous and-1 reverse layups.

And sure we all remember Pierce and his quick recovery from the near-death stabbing incident. The fact that he never missed a game that season is still impressive to me.

When we're talking Celtics, he's literally the most complete basketball player since Larry Bird and that is high praise since Larry is basically god and a legend.

With all that said, the most striking thing to me about Paul Pierce on-the-court-wise was his determination and grit. He always played with a chip on his shoulder and some people would say it's cockyness but I believe it to be supreme confidence.

Here's a guy who came out early from college and fell into our laps with the 10th pick and he remembered every team ahead of the C's that passed on him in that draft.

Shooting jumpers in his workouts and practices as a rookie while calling out all those NBA teams that didn't think he was worth the pick...you kinda had a feel that this kid was going to be something special.

And you saw it right away because Pierce didn't play like a rookie. His basketball prowess was clearly visible early. He knew when and where he could get his shots on "O" and he was deceptively quick on defense getting into passing lanes and rotating as the help defender to get a block out of no where.

Finally and unrelated to basketball, Paul Pierce is just a flat out good dude. With his Truth Fund and other charitable and community services this guy actually cares enough to help others outside of basketball. Sure you can say that he's "loaded" and rich and he should do it but a lot of other people who are considerably more fortunate do not.

Pierce also spends his time and through his foundations helps to educate kids on health which is way more valuable than just cutting a blank check.

I know people and fans want to start this rebuilding era probably sooner rather than later but Paul Pierce should retire a Celtic and I hope he does.

Flipping Pierce for assets just doesn't sit well with me and it shouldn't sit well with the Celtic Tradition.

I think it's safe to say that Red Auerbach is Celtic Pride and Celtic Tradition. Two major characteristics of that are loyalty and friendship.

I hope the current owners realize that we are different organization held to different and higher standards. Pierce is an ALL-TIME Great Celtic. You don't do anything but let him retire as one.

Nice post.  I love the captain, and am hoping that he remains a Celtic until he retires.
