"Make someone other then KG beat us, the Celtics cant make open shots" Thats what Doug Collins has probably been telling his team this series.

The Sixers are taking KG out of the game.

For the entire playoffs so far, KG was in the post, scoring in the paint, and occasionally taking jumpshots, but he was banging down low and scoring at will in the post, which is what the team had missed for years.

Sixers in game 3 or 4 then started double teaming KG every time he got the ball in the post, forcing him to pass the ball to an open man, who in turn cannot hit open jumpers.

The risk of double teaming is that shooters can make open shots, but we have nobody that can make open shots on the team.

Pierce is hobbled, cant make open shots.
Ray is hobbled, cant make any shots.
Rondo cant make shots.
Bass is in a huge slump, used to be able to make open shots, not anymore.

The winning combination against the Celtics is to make anyone but KG beat you right now, if you can double KG and make him pass the ball to wide open shooters, you will win the game because the Celtics arent a very good shooting team currently, with all the injuries.

The only way we continue to win in the playoffs is if our guys can somehow discover their stroke again, because right now we probably have the worst shooting team in the NBA, none of our starters can hit wide open jump shots when KG is doubled, and its completely killing us.

All year we were touted as a "jump shooting team"

Now what kind of team are we? The only person in our starting lineup that can make an outside shot is KG, and hes getting doubled everytime he touches the ball.

It really just maginfies our injury bug, 4/5 of our starting lineup was automatic if they got an open shot, now only 1/5 of them can make one.

KG also needs to look to score on the catch some more. He often looks to just move the ball first. Everybody needs to attack the basket in this one.

This.

Basically for a team that cant shoot, our number one priority should be attacking the basket and getting to the foul line or scoring inside.

Its like, currently, we know we cant shoot, but they still continue to shoot, no clue what they are thinking to be honest.

Game 7 will go as Rondo goes.  If he dominates we win if not we HAVE TO have huge games from both Pierce and KG plus someone else we need to make an open J.  I'd like to see KG on the low post a little more...

Pretty much.

I've been saying all series and all playoffs how stupid it is to allow ourselves to fall into a "walk the ball up" halfcourt game, and that falls primarily on the guy with the ball, Rondo.

Within the hour, Magic Johnson has leveled a blast at him on ESPN for failing to "attack" in game 6.

Gosh, I wish I'd thought of that.

 ;D

If we attack with the basketball at the rim, if we move the basketball and if we guard, especially on the perimeter, we will be fine.

If not, the Big 4 Era ends tomorrow night, and it'll be time to move Rondo, let Ray walk and move on.

We need to see the Rondo + KG attack in FULL tilt tommorrow.  Pound it inside to KG and Steamer ...again and again , tillthey all foul out or get frustrated.  IF we had healthy AB hitting his shots , this would be a massacre.  HAving AB as a shooting threat , took the pressure off Rondo to shoot the ball...  I think ROndo 's nerves gets the best of him when he is expected to score.

When you see Rondo get the ball in the backcourt with at least two of the big three with him and no Philly players, you should consider that the chance of a transition basket has decreased. Should we rush the ball up and try and get a quick shot against a set defense? You make it sound like the Celts are running up court ahead of the sixers and Rondo's walking the ball up court. That's not the case.

Wrong again.

The problem is Rondo walking the basketball up the court and unloading it at the first possible moment, and then hiding in the corner while the shot clock evaporates, or worse, yo-yoing the ball at the top of the key with open wings and post players - a not infrequent occurance durng the ENTIRE playoffs - while the same thing happens.

There just is no intellectual argument to make against the obvious fact that this offense is stagnant unless it plays with pace, attacks with the basketball to the rim and moves the ball.

I know you love Rondo more than life itself, but the evidence is mounting against you when respected basketball analysts have spent the past several days questioning Rondo's effort and noting his abject refusal to attack with the basketball.

You're going to have to wrap your brain around the notion some day that Rondo is killing any chance this offense has to succeed with his stubborn refusal to make an even cursory attempt to control the pace of the game.

Let alone stay in front of Holliday and Lou Williams.

Since you seem to know what's in Rondo's head, I'm curious: Is he going to play Saturday night, or is he planning on mailing that one in too?

TIA.

Rondo doesn't need defensive attention and Pierce can be single covered in his condition.... makes sense that they would double KG.

I think I'm one of the few people here who doesn't pretend to know what's in Rondo's head, the way you usually do.

The Sixers are one of the top defensive teams in basketball.  They played a really good defensive game in game 6.  The Celtics offense looked ugly in large part because of the Sixers defense.  They weren't allowing guys to get open off screens and set plays and when Rondo did get in the lane, they did a nice job cutting off passing lanes, moving well, and being active.

Rondo had a bad game, as did more or less everyone else offensively.  Of course, the Celtics want to be aggressive and move the ball.  The Sixers made it difficult to move the ball in the last game because they weren't letting our players get open to pass the ball to.

I expect game 7 to be a defensive battle as well, but I expect the Celtics to come out on top in this one.

The thing is back before you had Bradley who you can throw on the hottest guard that is shredding us up all while Rondo takes the lighter load. Can't do that now no coincidence why they went off last game.

I disagree that the Sixers played great D in game 6--they took a gamble that Boston would miss jump shots, and the Cs, unfortunately, obliged. In other words, the Sixers were fortunate.

The "double KG" situation is where we could really use Bradley's cutting game, so not only does Rondo need to get more penetration to draw guys away from KG, but other guys need to start cutting instead of camping out on the perimeter.

And dare I say it? Quis could come in quite handy in game 7--in my opinion, he's the second-best cutter on the team.
