I just have a feeling that Ray won't be back next season, after this horrible playoff performance.

He wont be back next season and we wont try to sign him, hes done.

Ray for Mayo would have been highway robbery for us.

Not sure why that one fell apart. At this point we should have traded Ray to the clippers for Eric Bledsoe. They would have done it. And he was great all post season when he played

Problem wasn't on our end...Mayo basically blocked the deal.

OJ mayo did not want to come.

he went as far as saying "i dont care about the banners"

also:

Quote
Boston apparently wanted Mayo ($5.6 million), Mike Conley ($6.5 million), Dante Cunningham ($2 million) and rookie Josh Selby ($550,000) in a large transaction that included draft picks. It's unclear who the Celtics would have sent the Griz in addition to Allen ($10 million) to satisfy the nearly $15 million swap in salaries.

I read the same thing about Mayo nixing it and a slightly different version where Memphis thought DA was asking for too much.  Looking at the details above, it wouldn't be too hard to believe that. Either way, it wasn't as if DA didn't try.

IIRC, Danny was at that Clippers game and Bledsoe played like crap.  My recollection from having stalked some LAC forum(s) at the time was that Bledsoe was not thought highly of.

Something would have had to come back too to make the salary swap work and LAC didn't have much to offer (Gomes?  They're likely to amnesty him.  Mo Williams?  They were hoping he'd opt out.)

It looks like a good deal in hindsight but it's not as if you would have been able to predict that Ray would have been this affected by injuries in the playoffs.

I think that Ray still has a fair amount to contribute to a contender, but I think that this thread and the idea behind it completely overrates Ray's trade value. I think that everyone would take 10 more years of Bledsoe or Mayo to a few years of Ray.

It looks like a good deal in hindsight, but it looked like a good deal at the time of the deadline too.  It's going to look like an even better deal in hindsight when the Celtics lose Ray for nothing this summer.  So technically...  it was a good deal no matter how or when you look at it.

That is, unless Ray defies all logic, turns back the clock KG-style and dominates for the next two series.

There was no deal, so I'm not sure how it looks good then or now.

I thought Ray was the most expendable of our guys and he showed some great value at the season mid point.   But this is split milk it didn't happen.  Right now you could not have trade him for a box of pez.
