My friend is a professional sleeper and he just texted me and told me that he saw Ray Allen in an elevator and Ray told him he was going to his room at this hotel and was going to sleep.

I can't believe this!!! Don't normal people on the road usually go out for a late dinner, hit a bar, see a show or go to a casino for a while to relieve stress and unwind!!!

I don't mean to kill Ray for wanting to sleep but given the Celtics have a game at 7:30 tomorrow, almost 20 hours from now, won't this mess up his normal sleep cycle and make him overtired and groggy during the game!!!!!!

 ;D

Pierce is a poker player.  I doubt it's the first time nor will it be the last.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

If this is how he relaxes, and he's not out boozing until 3am, more power to him.  I have zero problem with this.

Zero problem with this, he was playing poker at 9:30 at night?

If your friend txts you a pic of paul at 3 AM with bloodshot eyes then I'll have a problem with it.

On the other hand, I feel like after his subpar game last night and his MCL injury, there are probably more productive things he could be doing to get ready for tomorrow.

There's nothing he can do between now and game time WED to correct his injury.  What exactly are you prosing he do that's more "productive"?

Exactly. If this is how he blows off steam, so be it. So long as he gets his rest and doesn't get stabbed.

Just because Pierce plays basketball for a living doesnt mean he doesnt have other hobbies he enjoys. Who cares if he is out playing poker? he has been seen many times playing poker. Its probably his method of relaxing/pregame night ritual/clearing his mind. Let the dude have his life.

During playoff basketball is his life.
That's why they get paid millions of dollars.

I just got a text from a friend of mine who is a professional gambler that he's currently playing poker with Paul Pierce (9:00 EST on 5/15).  Still waiting for him to text me back the location, but we both live in Philly, so it's either in Atlantic City or one of the new casinos around Philly.  I will post if I hear back.

Update: it's Parx Casino in Philly.

This isn't meant to be an overt attack on Pierce for doing so.  I generally believe professional athletes should be let to live their lives as long as it isn't negatively influencing their performance (for instance if PP was going shots at a bar right now).  If he was healthy, I'd have no problem with this whatsoever.

However, I have mixed feelings about this due to his injury.  On one hand, it's probably not much different than sitting home and watching TV.  On the other hand, I feel like after his subpar game last night and his MCL injury, there are probably more productive things he could be doing to get ready for tomorrow.

What are your thoughts on this?

I'll bet Kobe would be getting treatment right now.  That's the difference between a guy who expects to get a 6th ring in his career compared to a guy who hopes to get his 2nd.
We all think we know more than we really do....

The only way I'd have a problem with this is if he was passing on treatment that could help him heal to gamble.  Since I know nothing about MCLs or sports rehab, it's fine with me.

And what, pray tell, is this magical treatment that Kobe would be getting for a strained MCL at 9:30 at night? Treatment for that injury is simply rest, so unless Pierce was doing laps around the table of jumping up and down, he is doing exactly what he should be.

Not to mention, a certain Michael Jordan also loved to gamble on his off nights. I think he did alright, rings-wise.

OH MY! LOL!

LEAVE THE MAN ALONE ;D.

Don't we all remember THIS glorious GAME THREE way back in 2010 vs MIA ON THE ROAD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFv9Fvbjy64

The reason for my reaction here is that I am about 95% sure that there were a thread or two BACK THEN - right before THAT game - about Paul Pierce being at a casino DOWN IN MIA.....

Give us a GAME WINNER tomorrow night - in GAME THREE Paul! I'm looking for it!

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201004230MIA.html

Above link is that same game of the buzzer beater - by the way. Paul gave us 32 pts on 11-23 shooting..8 rebs and 3 assists that game..all the while being guarded by a good player in Dorell Wright.

I'm NOT going out and saying we win tomorrow night, but I laughed out loud when I saw this thread.

I expect BIG things from Captain tomorrow...GAME THREE.
