I'm lost. I can't understand what people see in this guy.

I literally can't think of a worse player on any of the teams left in the playoffs.  :-X

If you really say this, and believe it, then I'm afraid that you don't understand that there are many ways outside of the more immediately obvious to impact a basketball game in a positive way.

I don't pretend I'm an amazing basketball player, but I do consider myself a good basketball player with a great understanding of the game. I'm often able to take the players on a basketball court that nobody wants to play with, and surprisingly manage to compete with and beat teams with supposedly far more talented players.

I always say the same thing. Because you're too focused on being down on the guy for what he can't do, you are not allowing yourself to see what he can, and has been doing exceedingly well for the team in this first round playoff series.

First, I don't care about your basketball skill or your game. It is irrelevant to the discussion.

Second, There is a reason to focus on what he can't do and that is because it out weighs heavily on what he can do. He is one of the worst rebounders I have ever seen play the game. Yet he is now getting credit for "trying hard" to get rebounds? Seriously? This is the NBA, trying hard doesn't get you wins.

Lastly, Ryan Hollins hasn't done anything exceedingly well. To say he has is just a flat out lie.

But hey, you know what he jumped real high on his missed dunk attempt yesterday. LET'S HAVE A PARTY for that effort.

He had a huge offensive rebound that helped us put the series away.  He's in no way worse than Jason Collins or Eric Dampier.  How about all the alley-oops and block shots that he had in the series?  not too shabby for a third string center behind KG and Stiemsma if you ask me.  By the way, Avery Bradley and Josh Smith have the edge over Hollins in missed dunks.  What hasty conclusions do you draw from that?

He had 7 points the entire series and 3 blocks the entire series.
What is your point?  That is not bad for a third string center in extremely limited minutes.  Besides what he brings to the game is energy and defense which doesn't show up on the stat sheet.  He probably has more points in the series than Mikael Pietrus who is our seventh man.  But then again they are not here to score.  They're here to hustle and defend.  They've been doing a heck of a job of that.

On the other hand when he was out there without KG its scared the crap out of me.  Then again it was pretty much scary anytytime KG wad off the court.
Yup

I can't understand what people see in this guy.

People tend to over-value hustle and obvious effort.  That's why the Celtics were able to acquire Robert Parrish back in the game, because he had a demeanor that was deemed to be a sign of laziness.

Whether or not you like Hollins, Bass has been terrible defensively for pretty much the entire season.  From what I've seen Hollins understands the defensive scheme, is aggressive and doesn't get pushed around.  He actually does attempt to box out, but is not a real good rebounder.  Considering how he wound up here though...not bad pick up.  Remember they just needed a body...and he wound up being a little more than that.

He is the new Mr. Intangibles since Scal left.....joking aside, I have loved how KG and Hollins have been on the defensive side. He is energetic, had a huge offensive board last night in which he was fouled and basically got under the Hawks skin a little bit.

Doc has never seemed to like Steamer. I'm not sure what it is. First it was JO, then Wallace, and now Hollins. And don't  forget about small ball for a few games too. All I know, is the Celtics were something like 20-2 when Steamer got at least 19 minutes.

Seems like a Tony Allen situation. No matter what, he was not going to please Doc. I think Steamer has made an impression on some scouts across the league, just like Tony, and will now have a good long career as a backup center. Hopefully a Joel Pryzbilla type career.

Don't like Hollins.

I rather have healthy Steamer next to KG or Pierce at the PF.

Bass has regressed in this postseason.

another thing that I like with Ryan is that he runs pick and rolls with Rondo really well.

I'm happy that Hollins' speed and effort have made such an impact defensively, but I'm not sure it makes up for how poorly Bass is playing.

Okay, time to prove my point.

Check out this youtube video. This was a play that was totally designed for Horford to get an easy basket, the kind of play that killed us at the end of game 5, which we lost.

Or rather no matter how poorly people's favorite binkie plays or how bad the match up is its been Doc's fault.

Atlanta had two factors that made Greg a poor option:

1. They went small often when Steamer would normally play. No true center for him to guard.

2. Al Horford came back to play essentially the entire Game 5/6 at C. Horford ate Greg's lunch, while Hollins did better (but not great though a lot of that is Bass screwing up during his personal 10 point run). In the 18 minutes of this series they were on the court together Horford got 8 points (on 60% FG%), 6 rebounds and 3 assists. This is while Greg picked up 2 points, 4 rebounds and 3 fouls.

When Steisma was on the court and it wasn't against Horford he did pretty well (Johnson/Dampier/Collins against him). Its all about match ups, especially in the playoffs.

Bass needs to get pulled from the starting lineup.

Hahaha, so we are now making videos on plays that were "supposed" to happen.

Congratulations to Mr. Hollins. He wasn't terribly out of position on that play.

I will admit, this was an awful matchup for Steimsma this series. He doesn't have the foot speed or athleticism to keep up with Horford and Smith, especially with his plantar fascitis.

But he is still a much better player than Hollins.
