We're not talking Hall of Fame here.. If a player means alot to the organization his number should be retired. I don't think you necessarily need a criteria to have a team retire your number. With that said, KG and Ray played 5 years with the C's, all-star appearances, 1 title. That's good enough in my book.

Reggie was named captain during his final year, which was a great honor at the time. He was always one of the top Celtics during his time, increased his scoring every year in the play-offs and came up big in the clutch. Like the big 3, he could have had better numbers had he not played with the original Big 3.

Reggie is retired because he was a team captain and at the time of his death he was the second best SG in the league and the assumption is he would have been one of the greatest Celtics ever.
Although Reggie is my favorite player of all time, I'm always debating his legacy. Was he the 2nd best SG? I don't know. He didn't make the all-star team that year. Other top SG's: Drexler, Miller, Dumars, Richmond, Petrovic, Hawkins, Nick Anderson, Hornacek,Ron Harper. I think you could make the argument for some of these guys.
After MJ, there wasn't a better two way player at SG in the league. Period. End of story.

danny ainge said no more numbers are being retired because its hard to recruit stars when you cant offer numbers... he really said this.

Did he say that about his own number, or retiring numbers in general?

I absolutely guarantee that additional numbers will be retired, because there is no way that Wyc doesn't retire the Captain's number.

I think they should retire Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett's numbers.

This is just a personal wish since these guys got me back to watching the Celts after almost a 20 year hiatus.

I just think these guys represent what a Celtic should be and they should be rewarded for their maturity, dedication and excellence.

Curious, but Ray has to be retired somewhere, right? Seattle is no longer a team though...

if kg retired right now.....no, his number should not be in the garden rafters.  if he plays a few more yrs for us and can contribute while doing so.....maybe.

for me, it isn't just about production and accomplishments, it also needs to include longevity.

it's not seen by most

kg is in pain. he grabs and rubs his hips. he uplifts this team. if he is givin more than he has for the Celtic's his number should rest here as well

If it were up to me, even without another title but if never playing for another team. I retire KG's number. Im not sure how far Id go if he leaves us but also wins another title here, but I think Id give it to him then too.

I just wish he'd give it a couple more years and be there to help young guys. Even without a title I'd give it to him and its not close
