1.  Rondo had a triple-double. His final line was rough (17 points on 22 shots, six turnovers) but he took over the game after halftime. “I could hear him say, ‘Let’s get to the rim,’” Teague said. “They were trying to get offensive rebounds. (http://blogs.ajc.com/hawks/2012/05/05/atlanta-hawks-celtics-90-hawks-84-ot/)
2.  KG asked Rondo a question on the bench. Rondo gave a brief explanation.  KG nodded his head as if he understood.
3. An acknowledging pat on the head by KG after his put back slam to ice the game.

Everyone noticed he had a triple double. Anyone watching and/or listening anyways.

No idea what you just said for number 3 though.

Why is this a big deal? Its the playoffs, Triple Doubles for Rondo are expected.

Im pretty sure everyone on this forum expected a triple double from Rondo in this game.

The Teague quote is the point of 1.

A fairly astounding statement, considering that only 14 or so players have more than 2 playoff triple doubles in their careers.

When you put those three facts together, it seems as if Rondo noticed something about Atlanta's defense and alerted KG thus creating that put-back dunk.

Well that Rondo ball fake has been dubbed "The Rondo" by the media, and Kevin has seen it 50 times. So he obviously was not faked out by it unlike the Atlanta D.

i am very happy with the outcome.  however, i wish two things would happen:

1. rondo would have finished
2. kg would crash the offensive glass more often, not just at a critical point.

im not complainin', im just sayin' :-\

Reaching.

Get offensive rebounds... what a novel idea.  Rondo must be a genius.

 ::)

Good win.  I interpreted the pat on the head by KG as "Little fella I know you're desperately trying to win this on your own (forcing 7-22 shots... 31%... 6 turnovers, etc), but this is still my team.  And I got your back.   KG cleaned up for Rondo's 15th miss.  I think it was one of those, "it's ok bro... I got you" moments.  A sign of mutual respect.  Rondo just blew another forced shot and our MVP, Kevin Garnett, was there to clean up his mistake.  They are in this war together.  I'm sure KG is very appreciative of Rondo's efforts and I'm sure ROndo is very appreciative that he has a big brother like KG saving the day when it counts.

It is a bit of a stretch.  However, we are officially and literally the worst offensive rebounding NBA team in history.  How many KG put-backs have you seen in the last three years?  It appears that Rondo called this spot on, and KG acknowledged him.

Maybe an expert will set me straight, but it seems logical that we'd be terrible offensive rebounding.  I think it starts with Rondo.  Rondo can't shoot.  He's a horrible shooter.  It's established.  Downright terrible.   He can hit shots 2 feet from the basket and beyond that he's a liability.   So our offense is built around that.  Ray spreads the floor and keeps defenders on him.  Pierce is a dynamic scorer who always needs attention.  Then you have both KG and Bass whose offense relies on mid-range jumpers.  Why mid-range jumpers?... because it keeps the opposing team's bigs out of the paint on defense... allowing Rondo to penetrate inside and hit shots within his range (2 feet from the basket).   Because our team has no low post presence (somewhat intentionally), we rarely have bigs in rebounding position.  They are too busy floating around mid-range giving Rondo assist opportunities and giving Rondo room to penetrate inside.  It's also PART of the reason Rondo has such inflated rebound numbers for a guard... a lot of balls just bounce to him and he happens to be the one in best position to get it.

That said, we're also just an undersized team in general and often our best chance of getting rebounds (even on defense) is to let our default "bigs" box out and hope the ball bounces to the right guy (often Rondo).  If we had a big man rebounding leaper like Dwight HOward, I think things would be different... but then you'd probably need a better shooter than Rondo... otherwise defenders would just plug in the paint (Dwight has can't hit mid range) and it would give Rondo less space to make layups.

if we crashed the boards more though, I wonder if we would improve in that area.

I think part of it is scheme. after we take a shot everyone is running back to get into their defensive sets

anyways, has anyone seen Steimsmas per-48stats for rebounding?? hes #2

1. I'm no expert.
2. Your analysis seems generally correct.
3. Rondo is a slightly above average jump shooter in the NBA.
4. The ball doesn't often "bounce to Rondo".  He's the best rebounding point guard in the league because of his length, speed, IQ and effort.

I take it LB was applying both hyperbole and Celtics standards to Rondo's jump shot in order to make his point.  But Rondo was a very good rebounder in college as well, and for a point guard high college board numbers (you know what I mean) are taken as an indicator of a hardheaded nose for the ball that will stand the PG well in the NBA.
