Unlike Channing whatever the hell his name is, Bosh didn't bail on his teammates for something that can be easily handled by a team of medical professionals basically working on behalf of a millionaire professional athlete.

Frye bailed on the Phoenix Suns in one of their most important games of the season because his wife was giving birth. I understand that it's an important thing to see your child born, and that's family, but isn't a team a family, too? This game for the Phoenix Suns was not a meaningless game. It's what ultimately doomed any chance they had of making the playoffs.

Steve Nash could have very easily demanded a trade away from the team, and be in the playoffs right now, but he committed himself to the team. Shame not all his teammates were willing to do the same. Bosh, unlike that Phoenix Suns player, didn't bail on his teammates, and I do respect that.

I would understand if that Suns game vs Utah was some meaningless regular season game, but it wasn't.

Your child is your family for the rest of your life.  Your team is your family until they trade or don't re-sign you.  In 20 years, what do you think Frye would regret more?  Missing the birth of his child, or missing a game?  I doubt anyone on his team took issue with it, either.

Being there for your child's birth is the right thing to do, but I don't know why it is classy.

"Admirable" maybe? I think classy is clearly the wrong word to use here in this instance. I was more or less alluding to the fact he was able to make his wife and family happy as well as his teammates. That's a win/win in my book.

Its actually a good thing Chris Bosh was there for his Wife, its extremely important for him to be there because when the baby hatches it imprints on the first person it sees.

Tommy point to Celtic Hooligan.  You've acknowledged that "classy" may have been a slightly misplaced word choice, but I'm down with the sentiment.

This does not mean that I like the Miami Heat basketball team or am not a fan of the Boston Celtics.  I just though I should clarify that as some folks seem to be having some confusion with that concept.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

It's not classy, admirable, or extraordinary.  Lots of dads are there for their families and their employers all the time.  He should be there for the birth of his child.  He should also be there at a critical time for his employer so he can support his family.

It's part of being a responsible human being.

I guess this is what im thinking. Is this the first time an NBA player has done this or something?

I just am missing the significance of the story I guess.

Didn't really think Ray was classy when he was dealing with his kid diabetes in the 08 finals or Pierce after winning the championship spending the night at the hospital with his daughter, just thought they were being dads

Im running out of ways to explain myself here guys but yes i agree with both of you. Its a part of being human. It's a part of being a dad. But so often that's not the case. I agree it SHOULD be expected. Many times it doesn't happen like that however.

It was a nice story. I give the kid credit. I don't get the negativity associated with a man seeing his son born and going back to his team. He kept everyone happy what's the problem guys? I understand your position that this should all be expected but isn't a positve story warranted at times too guys? Or should we just only acknowledge the positive things our players do?

I'm just assuming Bosh went because his wife ordered him to be there and he had no choice in the matter.

I don't assume that at all.  I just don't see it as extraordianry.  Hard for me to fathom any man not wanting to be present for the birth of his child.

The rewards of fatherhood are just too great to be absent.

Do you mind if i call you Ray? Einhorn is Finkel. Finkel is Einhorn. Love that movie.. I digress.

I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly unfortunatley these articles show the other side too. Sad but true.

Frye made the right choice.

Los Nash bails on his teammates exactly half of every single game he's on the court....Since he may be the worst defensive guard in NBA history.  He'd probably have a ring if he showed even pedestrian regard to the defensive end.  So to equate him with any kind of committment to team is a stretch.

Personally, even as a young man, I'd advise them to be there for their family.
The thread was about Bosh and his family. And it's just an opinion. I see no point in taking this into bashing thread. I'm sure there are lots of those threads out there and bringing Wade into the mix doesn't really make this more interesting all of a sudden.

Congrats to Bosh, by the way. I hope his newborn kid is healthy.
