We probably have the biggest collection of players that were never taught basic basketball rebounding technique.

1) You can see Pietrus has no clue about how to box out, even if theres a guy right behind him, he doesent even look to see where he is. Why is he jumping to the ball? Clearly we already ahve 2 Celtics in rebounding position, dont leave your man to jump to a ball for no reason.

2) Bass and Pierce both jump for the ball, getting in each others way. Why doesent one of them not jump and just let the other get the ball so they dont have multiple arms in the way of each other?

3) Rondo in the background doesent even go for the ball at all, just stands there watching.

4) McGrady actually didnt even go for the rebound, he assumed the Celtics had it, and when they coughed it up he simply grabbed it as it was falling out of bounds then dunks.

This team stinks on the glass, probably the worst rebounding team in the history of basketball, that includes 1st grade recess basketball as well.

You can see the look of Disgust on Pierce face afterwards.

To be fair to everyone, that was just an unlucky break with Pierce and Bass running into each other. Pietrus looks bad on that play, though. He looked afraid of getting hit.

Stuff like this has been happeneing all year though. Ive watched almost every game, this stuff happens alot, we are just a bad rebounding team with terrible rebounding skills and instincts.

I question your " basic rebounding knowledge".   They have a rebounding triangle formed which would be used in a zone but would be illegal in the pros.    Pros don't often box out.  They have not for years.   They rely more on athletic ability than technique.  A few guys but they are not the norm.

1) Pietrus's man is no where near him to box out.  Why would he box out air?  His man was running to get back on D not contesting.  Contary to popular opinion if you don't have anybody near you why would he box out.

2)  Pierce should have grabbed he had the best angle on the ball.  They clearly though each other had it and as a result bobbled it.

3)  Rondo had no business going down there.   Guards have to do stuff like start the break and wait for outlet passes on D.

4)  It's more of not giving up on a play rather than a huge reboudning error.  Pietrus should have boxed out by zooming towards the ball he allowed Mac to slip in.

This team does stink on the glass but even Kenyon Dooling would out rebound 9/10 posters on this board even with "boxing" out.

What is the most boards you ever grabbed post high school or college just curious?

As Van Gundy said earlier this year. Dont make excuses for them, the Celtics stink at rebounding.

Ive watched almost every game, this stuff happens alot, we are just a bad rebounding team with terrible rebounding skills and instincts.

Yet, according to the NBA team stats page:

http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/rebounds-per-game/sort/avgDefensiveRebounds

We are a top 5 defensive rebounding team. And 6th in the league at denying offensive rebounds.

So, clearly, you need to watch more games.

We are terrible at offensive rebounding. Worse all time, as a matter of fact. However, this is partially a product of not having athletic big-men, and having a defensive system that focuses on getting back on D and preventing the break instead of crashing the glass.

Say what you will about our system, but cherry-picking a single brain-fart possession in a poorly played game is incredibly dishonest, when the numbers say otherwise.

EDIT:

I accidentally linked to the PLAYOFF statistics, not the regular season statistics. My bad. The regular season link is here:

http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/rebounds-per-game/sort/avgDefensiveRebounds/seasontype/2

Which still puts us at a not terrible 14th for defensive rebounding.

The idea that we are the worst rebounding team is inaccurate.

I grabbed about 7 in a recreation league on a Thursday night about 10 years ago.

Was this question for everyone or just thestackshow?
We all think we know more than we really do....

If we arent so terrible at rebounding, why is "rebounding" our biggest flaw, gets magnified the most, and gets brought up during every broadcast.

The excuses and denial need to stop.

We suck at rebounding and so far there have been two posts so far trying to convince me that "no were actually not bad at rebounding" yes we are, watch the games. We get outrebounded every single night, and we cant even secure a rebound with 3 Celtics going after the ball.

We do stink at rebounding. That was not my point.  My point was that the analysis was clearly flawed and it was a pee poor example of our flaws.

I know you guys who play at the Y or in your little league think boxing out is the end all of rebounding.  Pros seal their man more often which is a quasi box and then try to go after the ball.   I wonder how many have ever tried to box out a 6'9" guy who can jump 36'+ inches with long arms?

We won the rebound battle last night.   We usually don't.  It is a huge problem.   But if you can't see how little the picture shows about rebounding then I do not want to waste anymore time trying to explain it .

We are the worst offensive rebounding team in the history of the league. That is a fact, not opinion.

We won't be able to beat the bulls because they will kill us on the glass. I'd love to see the Thibs/Doc match up. And without Rose it's an even fight.

It's not that the Bulls are so much better they don't need Rose, it's that Rose isn't the deciding factor. We need to play our game if we get into round 2. We won't win on the boards but we must not play like we did game 1 and half of game 2 and ,basically, before all star this year.

That was just two players on the same team both just hitting the ball. Just a failure of communication, it happens. (Pietrus is especially rusty looking lately)
