I feel a big upset brewing in the playoffs. The Knicks looked primed and ready to beat the Heat in the playoffs. The Heat have not been playin well, and look worse than last year. Theres no cohesion on the floor, and they look worn out. I think the Knicks can take advantage of that
The Heat to me have no clear advantage over the Knicks going head to head:
Chalmers vs Baron Davis
Wade vs JR Smith
Lebron vs Carmelo
Bosh vs Amare
Pittman vs Chandler
The only advantage they have is Wade vs Smith, but at the same time Wade would have his hands full guarding Smith. And the Knicks bench to me is 10 times better than the Heat's
The Knicks remind me a lot of the Dallas Mavericks in the 2011 Finals, the same team that beat the Heat. Knicks have the same center in Tyson Chandler, an unstoppable closer in Carmelo (just like Dirk), and a multitude of 3 point shooters out on the perimeter just like Dallas
The X factor though, is if Amare and Carmelo can mesh well on the court together. If they can become a dynamite 1-2 punch, I don't see how the Heat can beat them
Honestly the only advantage they Knicks have is Chandler vs Pittman.
Davis vs Chalmers is probably a wash with slight advantage to the Heat.
Lebron>Melo
Wade>Smith
Bosh>Amare. If Amare were healthy then this would be slight advantage Knicks but in his poor health this is a huge advantage in Bosh's favor.
Unfortunately because of Amare's injury they will not resort to using him as the main facet of the offense- which is would Woodson tried to do at first, and it worked excellently.
It was a basic strategy of dump the ball to Amare and let him score in the paint whilst kicking it out to Carmelo or open three point shooters when he can't find a high % shot.
Now it's going to be give the ball to Melo and let him chuck 30 shots a night and hope he shoots 55%. Cnce they smother Carmelo they swing the ball and find open 3 point shooters-which is what D'Antoni tried for way too long.
I don't think the Knicks have a chance.
Carmelo and their 3 point shooting might win them 2 games, maybe even three if Smith and Novak say their prayers, but their defense is still not good enough to stop the two best wings in the game from torching them in the paint and at the free throw line.
Heat in 6.
