As a Pats fan, I'm really hoping the D gets younger and more explosive thanks to this draft.

I admit this is the first draft in a long time I haven't paid much attention to. I have only one whole magazine this time. I am a little intrigued how the Pats will deal with having less picks than usual (although all at the top). I assume they'll trade down since they have already gotten some decent mid tier free agents, but I can also see the trading up for specific guys.
They really need DBs, LBs, and a tackle, which makes me think their first few picks will be DT, TE, fullback, RB, Qb or something.

I don't watch enough college football to say exactly who I'd like the Pats to pick (but I wouldn't be against trading up for Barron to help out at safety).  But I really want to see BB stop trading picks for next year.  It's not a bad overall philosophy; however, Brady is yet another year older.  The time to win is now.  We need to either hold the picks or trade up for a difference maker.

Ideally I would like the patriots to take Chandler Jones, DE from Syracuse at 27 and Harrison Smith, S from Notre Dame at 31.

Realistically I expect them to take neither and move the 31st pick.

Barron & Floyd are the two guys that I think would be worth trading up for that could possibly be realistic targets. (Claiborne is a guy I love but he'll be a top 5 guy)

I would love for this to be the year that they actually do trade up, however, I'm not holding my breath on that.

I think they'll go either DT or DE/LB with one of the first rounders and trade down with the other.

I think there are a lot of players that would fit with the Pats, and with so many round 1&2 picks the Pats have lots of options.

The safe bet is that the Pats draft at #27, trade the #31, draft at #48, trade #61, etc. For #27, Shea McClellin is a name that's been mentioned a fair bit as someone who would work for the Pats.

I want to think a bit more radical though: Pats trade #27, #31, #62 to move up to #7 (Jaguars) where they select Fletcher Cox.

New rumors are out there that NE will trade the 31st pick to Indy so they can take the TE out of Standford.  If it meant getting Indy's first rounder next year I would be all for it.

My big beef with trading firsts last year with NO was that you knew they were going to be good so the pick wouldnt get that much better.

It would be a no brainer if it was for Indy's 1st rounder next year, but that would be crazy stupid on Indy's part. Indy picks four picks later. If there is a trade, it is probably for Indy's 2nd rounder this year, and a later round pick in this draft (e.g.: Indy's 4th rounder).

The Giants lost their 1st two TE on the depth chart in the Super Bowl.  They signed one TE from Dallas to a one year deal.  So, I would bet they draft a TE.  I just don't think it will be in the 1st round.  (I expect a tackle, DE or DT)

Bedard (Boston Globe) has mocked the Pats taking Trumaine Johnson (CD/S) in the first round (and trading the other pick).

Worth taking notice because Bedard has been right in the past IIRC.

With the draft tonight I recommend this read from Yahoo Sports last night, about what yahoo called, "the toughest family in sports," the Jones' from Endicott, NY.

Art Jones plays DT for the Ravens

Jon Jones is the light heavyweight champ for the UFC

and Chandler Jones is projected to go in the first round tonight.

They all went to highschool with my Girlfriend and are all incredibly humble and kind.

Whichever team is lucky enough to get Kuechly is gonna get a guy that lives football and is a quality person in the locker room. Wish the Pats had a shot at him.

I know this is blasphemy but I don't think the Urlacher comparisons are too far off.
