good stats. i think that williams has physical talent, clearly.

the question has been his judgement and maturity. let's hope experience and doc can remedy those problems.

if he can keep his head on straight, he would be a valuable addition to the celtics for years to come.

impressed with the Celts for making this signing. did not realize he would have playoff eligibility - kind of cool.

The d league is less competitive than the ACC or Euroleague so I guess I'll just take the good with the bad here

I think everyone knows he has talent, there is a reason he was drafted in the first round back in 2007.

The guy is a headcase. That is his problem. I don't see him ever getting over that.

I hope he can, but I just don't see it happening. Maybe it is my hatred of him because he basically cost the BC a chance to make a huge run in the 2007 NCAA tournament because of his inability to stop smoking weed for a few months.

Actually in the D-League Stiemsma averaged like 4.8 blocks per game so his shot block numbers are nowhere near Stiemer's Also, Stiemsma averaged almost 11 rebounds per game in the D-League.

Well Stiemer passed the "Garnett-eye" test. Many have failed this test. No surprise Stiemer is making a contribution. Hollins appears to have passed the KG test as well. While not blessed with a ton of talent, and still not quite knowing whee to be(understandable given his situation), has been consistently giving his energy out there.

Doc mentioned that KG will have your back as long as you show maturity and willingness to learn, so if Williams can impress KG the way Stiemer impressed KG, regardless of his past that will be good enough for me to give him a shot.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

I think this is just Danny's way of having him come to camp next year to see if he's worth having at the end of the bench.

I don't think he or Hollins will be around next year.  I would hope that Danny can bring in a vet big man (Wilcox maybe, possibly Camby) to spell KG and Steimsma (must assume he's returning) next year.  Hopefully Bass is back at appropriate $ and JJJ can step his game up to crack the rotation next year.

Add in that I'd really like to see Danny draft a big man (or two) in this draft provided one is the BPA when he picks, I just don't see a future for Hollins or Williams on this team.

From the small look I had of him against Miami today (especially the 4th quarter), I really liked what I saw as a future bench piece.

Far less of a space cadet than Hollins thats for sure.

Yeah, a string of rebounds, good defense and decent instincts. He can definitely become an above average role player.

Imagine him and Stiemsma on the floor together. Our paint will be closed down like ***insert fitting cultural reference***.

It just seemed like being a defensive big was a natural thing for him.

I get that its a small amount of time and he wasnt against good opposition but his movements were very convincing and he made good decisions defensively, especially when he doesnt really know the system. There's something there, its just a matter of someone giving him a chance to show it.

He certainly made Hollins look like a complete bumbling idiot by comparison, which I guess is not much of a task at this point.

first all the appropriate caveats...only saw williams in the fourth quarter of a scrub/garbage time game....

but...

his athletic ability was clearly better than any big boston now has. he can leap and high. he can rebound with ferocity. and he has a great sense of how to block shots.

yet, as i watched him, i saw he was completely lost on most defensive rotations. but what else would we expect from a guy who has seen virtually zero practice time in a complex defensive system?

if williams really is brilliant then he will learn the rotations soon enough. i think his problem...aside from acting like a knucklehead repeatedly and with vigor... is he may relay more upon his athleticism and less upon team defense.

that is, he might not follow doc's master plan and simply decide he can block shots all by himself and team defense be [dang]ed. this is a personality problem, not an intelligence problem. if so, the celtics cut him loose.

color me interested in williams. he is a long shot to over come immaturity, but it does happen sometimes. honestly, i can see williams as a long-term celtic, playing great defense and rebounding.

if both williams and steamer can play as a tandum the celtics would be fine at center.

That was one of his biggest problems at BC.  He was always an impressive shot-blocker, but he preferred spectacular blocks to solid defensive positioning.  BC's defense was actually better when he was off the floor than when he was on, because he didn't understand (or care) a thing about team defense.

We'll see how he does in the future.  I personally don't have my hopes up, but when you're talking about the 15th man on the roster, I don't care who we have filling that slot.

When did he get his haircut?

I ask because I wonder if he did it to show that he is capable of conforming.

Not saying that it was necessary to, see Marquis, but I wonder if it shows his mindset.

Plenty of talent, supposedly high BBIQ, so it's worth a shot.

If he thrives, then it's all good.

There's one other difference between Hollins and Williams. Hollins was signed because of glowing recommendations from both Garnett and Pierce. Williams was the extra piece chosen by Ainge and his team.

I'm curious, if the players are better or worse at picking their potential teammates. The minutes are too few to make conclusions out of. I'd like to see how this plays out. We've got one more game in the regular season and Doc has his list. That's what I would watch for - who goes in first.
I moved the cheese.
