So if the big man decides to leave san antonio, should we make a play for him?

As a free agent and we didn't have to give up anything? Sure, why not.

Definitely.  Duncan and KG on the same team... we'd have a 90's allstar team on our hands if Ray came back too.. It'd be a special team for sure..

he's at the end of his run.   unless he's coming in to be our backup center AND he's healthy AND he's willing to take a very cheap, cheap contract, no thanks.

I love Timmy, but under no circumstance do I see him leaving San Antonio.

Of course, at the right price. When you have fundamentals like the Big Fundamental, you'll find a way to be effective for a long time. He's never really relied on athleticism much anyways and still puts up strong stats. However, no chance he leaves San Antonio unless asked to.

Just wondering who we are going to start over him. KG at 5 for another year?
KG & Tim on court at the same time would be very good, even when they're older than 35, because they know how to play basketball rather than relying on pure athleticism. But I don't think he'll be looking forward to leaving the Spurs at this point of his career.

I went with the 'yes but he'll never leave the Spurs' option.  The media doesn't even include him on the list of best free agent targets available this offseason because it is such a forgone conclusion that he'll either re-sign with the Spurs or retire.

Duncan is still awesome.  His numbers per minute are excellent.  He is no backup.

He will never, ever, ever, ever leave the Spurs.  I can't think of a player who is more singularly associated with a particular organization.  Even other star players who've only played for one organization - Kobe's a Laker, but he flirted with free agency and they've flirted with trading him.  Pierce will retire as one of the all-time Celtics greats, but you know that Danny at least was open to trading him.

There's never been a single moment since Duncan was drafted where you ever thought he was going anywhere else, either of his own volition or the team's.  He IS the Spurs franchise.

I'm not sold he won't leave the Spurs, but it won't be to come to Boston.  If he leaves it will be to a team he thinks could realistically win a title and that isn't going to be Boston.  I could see him going to Miami, Chicago, Dallas, L.A. (either one), or Oklahoma City.  I could also see him going to Charlotte to end his career near where he played college ball.

I don't think he leaves the Spurs, but I don't think it is entirely set in stone either.

Yes. Sign him, KG, and Ray to two year deals. Let them all leave when Pierce does and Kevin Love can opt out.
