Blessing in disguise. KG needs to sit too.
I don't see how a swollen toe is a blessing in disguise. Anything that limits a player's ability to do physical activity is bad.

Regarding another person's post, it is a legit injury if it affects Pierce's mobility. Hardening up is irrelevant. Not letting it heal before the playoffs if it effects his mobility would be a stupid move, especially if done in the name of pride.

Give me a break. I come from Australia where guys play a football game running 15km+ a game, getting tackled, bumped and ridden into the ground without padding whilst playing through cramp, exhaustion, shoulder dislocations, mild concussions etc. Forgive me for not believing a stubbed toe in basketball shoes is a legit injury. Unless its broken, which I doubt, it's a convenient DNP excuse.

I have the same foot doctor as Pierce.  Apparently he has so little mobility in his left foot due to a degenerative condition that his doctor is "amazed he can run."  I have the same condition and it is no joke.  Permanent serious turf toe.  So the tough-guy Australian can shove that information up his tough-guy ass.

To question Pierce's toughness is foolish.  He has shown countless times how tough he is in his career, whether it's coming back 2 weeks after almost being stabbed to death 11 times, or playing the next day after having several teeth knocked out with a 5 hour dental surgery.  What else does this guy have to prove that is he tough?  lol

Good for you guys for quoting me and not actually reading what I typed.

I was making the point that i thought it was a convenient DNP excuse to rest him, not questioning Paul Pierce's toughness.

It might have been the whole "we Australians are so much tougher than you Yanks" thing that got folks feeling a little defensive.  Just saying'.

Then again, we have a Dutchman who plays the best game of his life with a hang nail.  Maybe that Australian water is rubbing off on him.  If he were back in Holland, he probably would have needed surgery to remove the offending nail.

Ok sure. Replace my australian football example with the NFL, add pads, bigger athletes, then achieve the same outcome with my point about toughness.

Toughness is a lot mental in nature.  It helps to be big but it is not the end all of it, more willpower.  I have seen tough guys in all shapes, color, ethnicities and sizes.  They went down if you hit them hard in the right spot like anyone else does.

Being from a certain country does not provide toughness though.  Size helps, training helps but will not give up before the other guy is what matters.  I certainly would not be afraid of someone because they were Australian and played rugby.  Rugby players are not that big in all reality.  Their mental toughness is there though.   But the impacts in American Football are harder hitting and the guys are in general faster and bigger.

Read this and decide:

Can we start writing our feats of toughness on this thread!?

I once shattered my fibula but refused to go to the doctor until after the track season was over, I hurdled during New Englands on it and came in fourth. Woohoo!! Not telling you guys the year though.

On a more relevant note. Pierce should rest if he needs to. Tonight's game is not crucial.

Guys, let's not make this about countries please.

Cool it on the "we're tougher than you" bit.

Cheers.

I stubbed my toe one time .. ouch!

What?  It really hurt!

I got better.
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

The standard for "tough athletes" starts and ends with Ronnie Lott.
Facing surgery for a broken finger (pinkie?), he had the doctor amputate it so he could play that week.

#2 would probably be Jack Youngblood for the Rams who played in the Super Bowl with a fractured fibula.

Also, one year in the Olympics there was an Asian male gymnast who performed with a broken leg. It didn't hinder him much until landed on his dismount.

They pretty much said that they just rested Pierce anyway and he wouldve played if it was an important game. So everyone who said it was an excuse to rest him was right.
