You know your old when you have to sit out a game due to stubbing your toe haha.
'

haha my thoughts exactly. id sit pierce and kg tomorrow night. if our bench cant beat the bobcats i dont know what to say.

We better stop underestimating NBA caliber teams, regardless of how bad they are suppose to be. If we didn't have certain players on our team, the Bobcats beating us would be a very legitimate possibility. Not having Pierce might very well be enough for it to happen. Anybody can have some lucky shots drop for em, and KG and others can miss some enough shots, or there could be enough mistakes, and before you know it, the Bobcats have a decent lead and begin running away with it.
It isn't worth Pierce further injuring his toe and it lingering into the playoffs though, you have to rest him and if we can't win then it is what it is. We don't deserve the fourth seed if we can't hang onto it.

Blessing in disguise. KG needs to sit too.
I don't see how a swollen toe is a blessing in disguise. Anything that limits a player's ability to do physical activity is bad.

Regarding another person's post, it is a legit injury if it affects Pierce's mobility. Hardening up is irrelevant. Not letting it heal before the playoffs if it effects his mobility would be a stupid move, especially if done in the name of pride.

Give me a break. I come from Australia where guys play a football game running 15km+ a game, getting tackled, bumped and ridden into the ground without padding whilst playing through cramp, exhaustion, shoulder dislocations, mild concussions etc. Forgive me for not believing a stubbed toe in basketball shoes is a legit injury. Unless its broken, which I doubt, it's a convenient DNP excuse.
Pointless comparison. Unless you want Pierce to just run people over and tackle them. Basketball is a skilled game and a loss of lateral movement means getting abused on defense.

I am surprised you are unaware of the differences between the sports since you are posting on a forum for a basketball team.

You don't get points for machismo.

I suppose it could be a convenient "excuse" to get some rest before the playoffs, but firstly, Paul is just not that kind of player, and would always rather play than not, and secondly, if Doc needs to rest some of the older starters before the post-season, he will just do so.

Either way, no such excuse is needed in Pierce's case.

I did enjoy the previous inference that the real men (and athletes) are in Australia, though, where they play football with concussions and shoulder dislocations ... that must be why the NBA, NHL and NFL are so thin with Aussies ... they just aren't tough enough leagues!  ::) ;)

It certainly looked legit to me.   While would he do all the rubbing just to get some time off?

My toe-nail is coming off (I dare you to ask me for pictures) and I still played my competition game the other day, and had the best game of my life. 17 Points, missed a single shot (one of my 2 teardrops). I play a bit like Ray, though I'm going to try to play more like Paul.

Anyway, my point is: I had an awesome game! If I can play with my nail coming off, Paul can surely play with a "stubbed toe"!

Seconded. Why bother with making up excuses? These Celtics have actually been reluctant to sit out some games for the rest down the stretch for several years.
In fact, no NBA player likes to sit out games. They want to play. It's about their competitiveness, not just about pride. Players that are not going to be that bothered generally have shorter careers, in my opinion.

I'll avoid further snarkyness.

My point is that if you professionally play a sport that requires an ounce of toughness, and you asked for a game off because you stubbed your toe, you would get slapped by your coach, medical staff, water boy, entire playing group and cheerleaders for being a pansy.

Anyway it doesn't matter. The match report should read:

"Paul Pierce DNP - Cant be stuffed with the Bobcats"

I have the same foot doctor as Pierce.  Apparently he has so little mobility in his left foot due to a degenerative condition that his doctor is "amazed he can run."  I have the same condition and it is no joke.  Permanent serious turf toe.  So the tough-guy Australian can shove that information up his tough-guy ass.

To question Pierce's toughness is foolish.  He has shown countless times how tough he is in his career, whether it's coming back 2 weeks after almost being stabbed to death 11 times, or playing the next day after having several teeth knocked out with a 5 hour dental surgery.  What else does this guy have to prove that is he tough?  lol

Good for you guys for quoting me and not actually reading what I typed.

I was making the point that i thought it was a convenient DNP excuse to rest him, not questioning Paul Pierce's toughness.
